Korn At Veterans United Home Loans Amphitheater In Virginia Beach, VA 7-30-2019

On their North American co-headlining tour, Korn and Alice in Chains made a stop in Virginia Beach at the Veterans United Home Loans Amphitheater on July 30. The bill was stacked to end the month on a heavy note with Ho99o9 and Underoath supporting the tour.

The trio, Ho99o9 (Horror) opened the night with their high energy and unique sound melding techno and metal. Hiding under a massive Suess-like hat, they instantly garnered intrigue. Once the hat came off, the band gave me a voodoo-vibe, which was perfect for setting the tone of the evening.

Underoath was next on the bill. Lead guitarist, Timothy McTague, entered the stage with a bright green guitar strapped on his back and pulled double duty banging on a small drum set downstage from Aaron Gillespie and his full kit. The heavy beat amped the atmosphere as the rest of the members joined the stage. Tucked in the back of the stage, the keyboardist had my attention during their set as he gave so much energy into the performance, rocking harder than anyone else in the venue.

Alice in Chains came out with a mix of classic and new songs. Their stage setup was simple, but it was laid out and lit up so well that every audience member could see every band member, even in the very back of the venue. The wall of lights and LCD screens behind Alice gave an incredible visual element to their set. The LCD screens would flash designs, while the wall of lights gave it a fiery presence.

Korn finished the night in the way one would expect a Korn show to be. It was epic! The black curtain dropped and Jonathan Davis asked “Are you ready?” to open “Here To Stay.” Fans were indeed ready. Korn sang all of their classics, and their current new single, “You’ll Never Find Me.” Halfway through the set, Jonathan Davis came out in his signature black kilt to accompany his screeching bagpipes for “Shoots and Ladders.” They even did a short cover of Metallica’s “One” that could only be done better by Metallica themselves. They ended the night with “Falling Away From Me” and confetti guns. It was the perfect way to close out July.

Korn and Alice in Chains are touring together through the beginning of September. Make sure you follow them on their social media pages for the most current dates and tickets, and be on the lookout for Korn’s latest album, releasing in September.
