The Dirty Heads' Supermoon

The band has always had an old school, 70’s Reggae/Alternative/Hip Hop sound that we have all come to know and love. With the perfect songs for those laid-back Sunday with no stress, all with beats that keep your head bobbing and make you want to dance. The same is true for this new album, Supermoon with tracks like the title track “Super Moon,” “Tender Boy,” “Lighthouse,” “Crowbar Hotel.”

This Southern California Based band has not let us down with the new album.  Mentions of some of the band’s idols Johnny Cash, and Bob Dylan In the song “Tender Boy” where vocalist Jared speaks on wishing he could sit and talk with them and get their perspective. You can hear Johnny Cash influences in this track as well. They have always had a positive message for their fans, and they continue to do so with songs like Horsefly reminding you to love what you’re doing in life and not to give up on yourself.

The New album released August 9th which will mark their 7th full-length album. Produced by six-time Grammy- Award Winning Dave Cobb out of Nashville, TN at the Remarkable RCA Studio A on music row. Dave Cobb has also produced incredible artists such as Chris Stapleton, Chris Cornell, Shooter Jennings, and many more.  Vocalist Jared Watson says “We wanted a cohesive sound. We knew Dave would push us and take us out of our comfort zone,” Jared says. “That’s where the best music happens, where Dirty Heads love to be.” He laughs. “But we had to tell people, ‘We’re not making a fuckin’ country album!’” They certainly have achieved that goal, the album front to back is something you will have on repeat for a while, each track leaving you to want more.

Title track “Super Moon” Starts off this record with you feeling like your riding off into space with them. With the use of vibrant trumpets and mentions of being “Loner in the dark with my horse by my side”  and “Me and Willie really need to ride off into the sunset”  They used a variety of instruments throughout the album like the throaty sounding Acoustic guitar that comes in during “Lighthouse” and the timeless piano in “Tender Boy”.

Each track leading you into the next, unique in their own way but cohesive in the same instance. Several tracks have similar vibes of previous songs they have put out like “Sloths Revenge”, and “My Sweet Summer” have similar characteristics to “Lighthouse” and “Slow Down” to mention a few. While listening to the album front to back, you go through these calm laid back vibes to the get-up and its time to move feeling.

I have always appreciated Dirty heads for that, their music has always put a smile on my face and be a place to relax. The mix of rapping and melodies just keeps you intrigued and come in just at the right time. This album was put together so incredibly well, and knowing they went in and had 20 songs that they had to narrow down from to get this ten-track list is magnificent. They did not disappoint, get your copy online and in stores. They are currently on their US Super Moon tour, Co-Headlining with 311 and support acts such as Dreamers and Bikini trill until August 20th,2019. You can also keep up with their tour dates on Bands In Town.
