Shaman’s Harvest At Hooligans In Jacksonville, NC 7-18-2018

Black Top Mojo and Shaman’s Harvest are currently on their Summer 2018 tour, combining select show dates together. On July 18, they made a stop in Jacksonville, NC at Hooligans. The House of Blues vibe the venue had made it a perfect night for these two bands, bringing their own bluesy vibes.

Opening the night was local band NoWhere’s Home. The Southern rock band primed fans for the night. Their gravelly vocals were perfect for the “La Grange” and “Blue On Black” covers they did.  To find out more about their band, head to https://www.facebook.com/nowhereshome/

Rising rock band Faith & Scars was next in the lineup. They brought great energy to the stage and fans shouted and sang along with their songs. Towards the end of their set, the drummer played on flaming cymbals, amping the crowd up even more. This band is not to be missed! Finally, Blacktop Mojo hit the stage with their larger-than-life personality and beards and hair to match! The energy they brought to the stage was explosive and their crowd interaction was like they were performing for each fan individually. They ended their set with their recent “Dream On” cover where not one person didn’t sing along in the venue.

Shaman’s Harvest hit the stage around 10:30. The chemistry the band shares on stage and their passion for their music stood out for their performance as I’d see them with smiles and catching laughs with each other on stage. During particular riffs, you could see them feeling the music. While each band had great chemistry and obvious passion for music, Shaman’s Harvest stood out on stage as they’ve maintained and strengthened it over 20 years together.

Frontman Nathan Hunt reminisced with the audience of the last time they played the venue, 10 years prior while touring with Puddle of Mudd in what can be described as the most legendary rock star shenanigans. They played “Soul Crusher” and showcased each members talents with incredible solos from each. The lights dimmed, and quieted the audience as Nathan came on stage alone and played an intimate acoustic “Long Way Home,” a recent addition to their setlist. The rest of the band then joined in a beautiful performance of “Tusk and Bone.” The vocal harmonies and mellow guitars gave me goosebumps.

Closing the night with covers of “Behind Blue Eyes” during “Dragonfly” and “Come Together” paid great homage to trailblazing rockers before, and added a modern heavy edge to them for a great night of nostalgia and headbanging.
