QFT's Live in Space

The Sweden-based rock band QFT (Quantum Force Theory) just released their debut album, Live in Space, in May this year. This album is reminiscent of 80’s rock bands. In their bio, they give credit for some of their inspiration to Black Sabbath, Van Halen and even the Spice Girls, taking inspiration everywhere. While listening to their album, it was nostalgic of Queen and Rush to me. With their heavy guitars, drums, and the lead singers belting voice, I enjoyed the album.

I also really loved that their whole theme of the album was science and universe inspired. Their second track, “Big Bang” is a great ode to science with the first lyrics “Big Bang, the beginning of the light…in the name of science.”

Their first track, “End of the Universe” is one that has a Black Sabbath-esque intro. Lead singer, Linnea Vikstrom, then opens the song with ethereal notes just before she belts out the chorus. Her voice is so unique that within one song, she simultaneous reminds me of Rush lead Geddy Lee, and Heart singer Ann Wilson.

Title track “Live in Space” is my favorite from the album. It slows down from the rest of the album with a beautiful piano intro. The vocals in this rock ballad begin softly and beautifully, then she belts out strong near the great guitar solo.

Overall, I really enjoyed the album. As a fan of 80’s rock, this album fits in with my favorites. And the unique theme and subject of the album paired with the heavy instrumentals and wide range of vocals makes it a “must listen” for any rock fan.
