Welcome to Rockville 2018 Day 1 Recap

‘The World’s Loudest Month’ officially kicked off with the eighth annual Welcome to Rockville Festival. The festival now expanded to three days and featuring some of the top artists in rock/metal showed the rest of the country that it has what it takes to compete as one of the nations top festivals. With 56 bands playing on three stages over the three day event, fans had plenty of music to choose from. 

Palisades kicked the 2018 Welcome to Rockville festival off with their performance on the Metropolitan stage Friday afternoon. The day would see 17 bands take to the three stages including some of the top names in rock/metal like, Trivium, Underoath, Parkway Drive, Halestorm, Five Finger Death Punch, Atreyu, Godsmack, and closing out the days events on the Monster Energy stage the Prince of Darkness himself, Ozzy Osbourne. 

Welcome to Rockville 2018 Day 1 RecapTrivium took to the Metropolitan Stage just before 4 o’clock to start their festival season off. The band kicked off their short festival set with the title track from their latest release, The Sin and the Sentence, the short seven song set also included fan favorites, “Until the World Goes Cold,” and “The Heart From Your Hate.” Trivium are currently out on the road with Bullet For My Valentine on a tour that will wrap up on May 18th. The guys will also be making a couple of more The World’s Loudest Month festival stops with performances at Carolina Rebellion and Rock on the Range. Trivium will stay busy this summer with more festival appearances at, Rock Fest, Rock USA, Impact Music Festival, and Heavy Montreal.

Welcome to Rockville 2018 Day 1 RecapParkway Drive had one of the heaviest performances of the day as fans filled the Metropolitan Stage area to catch the guys from Australia. With only a seven song set Parkway Drive wasted no time getting the crowd up and off their feet crowd surfing as they kicked things off with “Wishing Wells” from their upcoming release, Reverence. Also making the set from the new album was “The Void” the set wrapped up with “Bottom Feeder,” and “Crushed” from the 2015 release, IRE. Parkway Drive will play Carolina Rebellion as well as Northern Invasion as part of The World’s Loudest Month, as well as a handful of headlining shows in the U.S. before heading over to Europe for FortaRock, Rock am Ring, and Rock Im Park.

Welcome to Rockville 2018 Day 1 RecapHalestorm put on an all-star performance for the fans over at the Metropolitan Stage. The band played for just under an hour performing a 10 song set of fan favorites which included four tracks from their latest release, Into the Wild Life. Halestorm are currently out on one of the biggest tours of the spring, touring with Stitched Up Heart, New Years Day, and In This Moment. The tour is slated to run thru the summer when it will wrap up in Valley Center, CA on August 25th. Also look for Halestorm to make several more festival appearances at, Carolina Rebellion, WXRX 104.9 Spring Fling, Rocklahoma, Ramblin’ Man Fair, Rock USA, and Rock Fest.

Welcome to Rockville 2018 Day 1 RecapFive Finger Death Punch is no stranger to the World’s Loudest Month Festivals. The band returned to Welcome to Rockville performing on the Monster Energy stage. The band is set to release their seventh studio album And Justice for None later this month. The only new tracks to make the days set were “Trouble” from the A Decade of Destruction release and “Fake” off the upcoming album. Five Finger Death Punch will continue their tour with Shinedown thru May and will co-headline a summer tour with Breaking Benjamin that kicks off July 16th. 

Five Finger Death Punch Setlist: Under and Over It, Wash It All Away, Jekyll and Hyde, Never Enough, Lift Me Up, Bad Company (Bad Company cover), Trouble, I Apologize (Acoustic), Wrong Side of Heaven (Acoustic), Coming Down, Fake, and The Bleeding.

Atreyu closed out the River Stage on day one. One of the highlights of their set was the cover of Bon Jovi’s “You Give Love a Bad Name.” Atreyu will also make appearances at Northern Invasion and Rock on The Range.

Welcome to Rockville 2018 Day 1 RecapGodsmack’s last appearance at Welcome to Rockville was back in 2015. On Tuesday the band released their seventh studio album, When Legends Rise and on Friday they closed out the Metropolitan Stage with a performance that saw plenty of pyro and pyrotechnics thru out the show. The set kicked off with back to back new tracks from the latest album with “When Legends Rise” and “Eye of the Storm” getting things started. Other songs from the new album that made the set were “Unforgettable,” and “Bulletproof.” Look for Godsmack to team up with Shinedown for a summer tour that will kick off July 22nd and run thru September 2nd. 

Godsmack Setlist: When Legends Rise (Live Premiere), Eye of the Storm (Live Premiere), Awake, 1000hp, Unforgettable (Live Premiere), Something Different, Cryin’ Like a Bitch, Voodoo, Batalla de los tambores, Whatever, Bulletproof (Live Premiere), and I Stand Alone.

Ozzy Osbourne kicked off his farewell tour as he closed out the day’s events on the Monster Energy Stage. Fans hoping to catch Ozzy on his farewell tour will have to wait until the end of the year to see if the Prince of Darkness will return to the Jacksonville area one last time. The set for the night was a mix of classic solo material as well as a couple of Black Sabbath songs including “Paranoid” which closed out the set as well as the day’s events.
