Welcome To Rockville 2018 Day 2 Recap

Saturday saw clear skies and lots of heat as day 2 got under way. Record crowds filled Metropolitan Park as fans came out to see acts like, Avatar, Sevendust, Black Veil Brides, Asking Alexandria, Hollywood Undead, Stone Temple Pilots, Butcher Babies, Breaking Benjamin, Stone Sour, Andrew W.K., and Avenged Sevenfold take to the stages. 

Between catching their favorite band perform fans had plenty of things to choose from to try in stay cool in the Florida heat. There were plenty of chances for fans to meet and get autographs from the bands performing at the many artists signings spread across the festival. Fans could spend time at the Monster Energy Experience, The Music Experience, or the f.y.e Fan Experience.

Fans also had plenty of vendors to check out like Roadrunner Records, Monster Energy, Fearless Records, Zippo, Rise Records, and Fxck Cancer/Dying 2 Live. But what fans really came out to see were the bands, and here’s a brief recap of some of the bands that took to the stages on day 2. 

Jacksonville’s own, Yashira got day 2 started on the River Stage with an early 12 p.m. start they set the tone for what would follow on the smaller of the three stages. Bands like The Wild!, He Is Legend, Palaye Royale, Stick To Your Guns, and Butcher Babies all took to the River Stage before Andrew W.K. closed out the days events. 

Welcome To Rockville 2018 Day 2 RecapAvatar is no stranger to the festival circuit and on Saturday they wowed the crowd at the Monster Energy Stage with their short six song festival set. The set kicked off with “A Statue of the King” which saw guitarist Jonas Jarlsby play while sitting in a throne wearing crown and all. The rest of the set was rounded out with “Hail The Apocalypse,” “Let it Burn,” and “Smells Like a Freakshow.” Avatar will play several of the large European festivals over the summer and fans can only hope the band will tour the U.S. in the fall.

Welcome To Rockville 2018 Day 2 RecapSevendust played the Monster Energy Stage on Saturday afternoon. In what seemed to be a very short set for them the band only played a six song set that did kick off with the new track, “Dirty” from their upcoming release, All I See Is War which will be released on May 11th. Sevendust will be out on the road in support of the new album for a short run that will wrap up June 1st in Lexington, KY. Welcome To Rockville 2018 Day 2 RecapBlack Veil Brides played the Monster Energy Stage taking a break from their tour with Asking Alexandria that is set to wrap up on May 19th in London, ON. The band released their 5th studio album, Vale back in January and the days setlist included “Wake Up” from the latest album. The band played roughly a 35 minute set. Look for BVB to make appearances at Northern Invasion, Rock on the Range, Download Festival, as well as appearances on the Vans Warped Tour this summer.

Welcome To Rockville 2018 Day 2 RecapHeading over to the Metropolitan Stage fellow touring mates Asking Alexandria performed a 40 minute nine song set that saw the live debut of “When the Lights Come On” from their 2017 self-titled album. The set weighed heavily on material from the new album with five songs coming from the album. Fans can catch AA on this year’s Vans Warped Tour between July 22nd and July 28th.

Welcome To Rockville 2018 Day 2 RecapHollywood Undead played an eight song set over on the Monster Energy Stage the palm tree filled stage setup made for the perfect back drop as the band played “California Dreaming.” Other highlights of the set were “Undead,” and “Everywhere I Go” which had the crowd up and bouncing.

Welcome To Rockville 2018 Day 2 RecapStone Temple Pilots introduced new vocalist, Jeff Gutt to Jacksonville as the band performed at this year’s Welcome to Rockville Festival. The set consisted of classic STP hits with the exception of “Meadow” the only song from the latest release to make it onto the setlist. 

STP will be no strangers to the festival circuit in 2018 as they will make appearances at, Carolina Rebellion, FM99 Lunatic Luau, Pointfest, Northern Invasion, WIXO Spring Fling, WMMR BBQ, Rock On The Range, Rocklahoma, 97.1 The Eagle Presents BFD, Rockfest, Rock USA, and 103.9 The Big Growl. STP will follow up their festival appearances with the ‘Revolution 3 Tour’ where they will team up with Bush and The Cult for a summer long tour that will wrap up on September 2nd in Phoenix, AZ. Stone Temple Pilots released their seventh studio album and second consecutive self-titled album last month, the album marks the debut of vocalist Jeff Gutt as the STP frontman. The band has already released four singles from the album which include, “Meadow,” “Roll Me Under,” “The Art of Letting Go,” and “Never Enough.” The new album can be purchased HERE

Stone Temple Pilots Setlist: Wicked Garden, Vasoline, Down, Big Bang Baby, Big Empty, Plush, Meadow, Interstate Love Song, Dead & Bloated, and Sex Type Thing.

Welcome To Rockville 2018 Day 2 RecapBreaking Benjamin released their sixth studio album, Ember in early April and kicked off their set with the latest single from the album, “Red Cold River.” “Torn in Two” was the only other song from the latest album to make the set. Crowd favorites, “I Will Not Bow,” “Sooner or Later,” “So Cold,” “Angels Fall,” and “The Diary of Jane” were all also included. One thing Breaking Benjamin always does is perform a medley of songs that have influenced the band, the medley for tonight consisted of Tool’s “Schism,” Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” Pantera’s “Walk,” and Metallica’s “Sad But True.” Look for breaking Benjamin to tour this summer with Five Finger Death Punch. Welcome To Rockville 2018 Day 2 RecapStone Sour headlined the Metropolitan Stage wrapping up the days events with 12 song set that kicked off with the live debut of “Whiplash Pants,” followed by “Absolute Zero,” and “Cold Reader.” The band will continue to tour thru mid May before heading to Europe for numerous festival appearances. Fans will see Stone Sour back on the road when they go out with Ozzy Osbourne on his farewell tour. That tour will run from August 30th thru October 30th, and fans can pick up VIP packages and tickets HERE

Andrew W.K. brought the party to the River Stage as he closed out the days events over on the smaller third festival stage. Fans can look for Andrew W.K. to continue to tour thru the end of September as he tours in support of his latest release, You’re Not Alone. Avenged Sevenfold closed out day 2 of this year’s Welcome to Rockvile on the Monster Energy Stage. The band debuted “Shepherd of Fire” during the nights set but had to temporarily stop the show due to an injured fan. Avenged Sevenfold will tour this summer with Three Days Grace and Prophets of Rage, the tour will run from July 22nd thru September 2nd when it will wrap up in The Woodlands, TX.
