The Tigerlilies’ Space Age Love Songs

The Tigerlilies' Space Age Love Songs
Cincinnati punk rockers The Tigerlilies reissued their debut album, which was recorded a couple decades ago. Space Age Love Songs might be bordering on vintage, but it still sounds great to ears that love a good punk album. While they are labeled “post-punk power pop”, they have a grungy garage punk sound that feels like it came straight out of the 70s.

Back when the album was first released it won awards from the Cincinnati Music Awards, which helped them find their way into the SXSW Festival. The album that was taking them to the big-time soon was forgotten after losing their manager in a vehicle accident and putting the band on hiatus.

Now that they’ve had time to heal from the memories of that fateful time, the band re-released the album with the addition of six previously unreleased tracks recorded at the same time. That gives old and new fans alike a collection of 11 soulful punk songs that might sound vintage, but still, speak to the times we live in today.

“Chances Are” sounds like music you’d expect to hear from any garage punk band. It’s distorted sounds and falsetto background vocals give it a classic feel. It’s almost like something you’d expect to hear on the soundtrack for “Peggy Sue Got Married.”

Anyone who enjoys garage rock, punk, and music that just sounds free and raw, will dig this album. Check out “Contact”, one of the songs that stands out on this album. Between the fabulous vocals, excellent backing vocals, and the beat that will have you moving, you can’t go wrong with this album. These songs will be stuck in your head for days.

5 Stars. Glad they brought this back.
