Slayer At Jiffy Lube Live 6-10-2018

Written By: Brandon Delano

Slayer announced early this year that the band would embark on its final world tour which kicked off May 10th in San Diego. On Sunday night the tour rolled in to Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, VA with a stacked lineup consisting of Testament, Behemoth, Anthrax, and Lamb of God as support acts.

With five bands on the bill things got off to an early start with doors opening at 4 and Testament taking the stage at 5.

Thrash metal band, Testament kicked things off for the night. With eleven studio albums and over thirty years as a band, Testament had plenty of material to pull from for their short seven song opening set. Chuck Billy and crew kicked the set off with the title track of their 2016 release, Brotherhood of the Snake, the set also included fan favorites “The New Order,” and “Disciples of the Watch.”

Testament Setlist: Brotherhood of the Snake, Rise Up, The Pale King, The Preacher, Into the Pit, The New Order, and Disciples of the Watch

Poland’s Behemoth were next up for the evening. Behemoth are currently working on their follow up album to 2014’s The Satanist and fans were treated to a new track, “Wolves ov Siberia” off the upcoming release. Before the band could start the song their was a brief interruption though as Gary Holt, Randy Blythe, Kerry King and others joined Behemoth in wishing vocalist Nergal a happy birthday, with Randy leading the crowd in singing “Happy Birthday.”  The guys then wrapped up their set with “Chant for Eschaton 2000,” and “O Father O Satan O Sun!” Behemoth are only on the first leg of Slayer’s final world tour and will play Austin, TX as their last stop of the tour on June 20th.

Behemoth Setlist:
Ov Fire and the Void, Demigod, Ora Pro Nobis Lucifer, Wolves ov Siberia, Chant for Eschaton 2000, and O Father O Satan O Sun!

Member of the “Big Four” and one of the pioneers of thrash metal, Anthrax were quick to get the crowd moshing and crowd surfing getting their set started with “Caught in a Mosh.” Anthrax’s set consisted of classics like “Madhouse,” “I Am the Law,” “Antisocial,” and closed out with “Indians”. It’s been nearly 35 years since Anthrax’s debut release, Fistful of Metal but on Sunday night the band proved to the fans that they still have what it takes to get ten thousand up on their feet.

Anthrax Setlist: Caught in a Mosh, Got the Time (Joe Jackson cover), Madhouse, I Am the Law, Evil Twin, Antisocial (Trust cover), and Indians.

Richmond’s Lamb of God proved to Jiffy Lube Live on Sunday night that they truly are ‘Pure American Metal’. It’s been nearly two years since Lamb of God played their home state of Virginia and Randy made sure the crowd new it was good to be back on stage in his home state. The band ripped thru a nine song set and sounded as good as ever with tracks like “Omerta,” “Walk With Me in Hell,” “Now You’ve Got Something to Die For,” and “Redneck” all making the nights setlist. Lamb of God will return to the DMV region when they play the Fillmore Silver Spring with Anthrax, Testament, and Napalm Death. Tickets can be purchased HERE

Lamb of God Setlist:, Omerta, Ruin, Walk With Me in Hell, Now You’ve Got Something to Die For, 512, Engage the Fear Machine, Blacken the Cursed Sun, Laid to Rest, and Redneck.

Slayer took the stage at roughly 930 and pavilion had filled to nearly ten thousand fans who had come out to bid farewell to the iconic band who was making their final appearance in the Northern Virginia area. Fans rose to their feet as the intro music played and the Slayer logos on each side of the stage were lit up in flames. The flames would continue thru out the night as Slayer held nothing back performing a 90 minute frenzied set of metal, opening up the set with “Repentless,” “Blood Red,” and “Disciple.” The night wrapped up with some of my personal Slayer favorites with “Dead Skin Mask,’ “Hell Awaits,’ “South of Heaven,” “Raining Blood,” and “Angel of Death.” With 37 years, 12 studio albums, two Grammys and countless other awards under their belts, Slayer knows how to close out a night.

This tour is a must see for any metal fan and a chance to see Slayer perform live one last time. For tickets as well as VIP packages go HERE.
