Shallow Side's Origins EP

Alabama hard rock band, Shallow Side, released their fourth EP on July 13, 2018. Origins contains eleven tracks and three of them are brand new. The other tracks are from their previous releases. With a plan for their first full length album to be released later this year, now is a great time for them to get their fans geared up for the new album. Origins gives their listeners just that. A reminder of the past EP releases and a taste of what they’ve been working on now.

Shallow Side started out in Cullman, Alabama. Origins was produced under the label, Thermal Entertainment, LLC. They even released a limited number of vinyls for this EP. They just started a tour with Puddle of Mudd, Saliva, Tantric and even some dates with Soil and The Veer Union. Take a look at their Instagram at @shallowsideband for videos, pictures and tour updates. Not a bad looking bunch of rockers.

Listeners will hear a tie to Shallow Side’s southern roots throughout Origins. The title fits as they pay homage to how far they have come as a group. Vocalist, Eric Boatright, grew up religious and singing in church and it shows in his vocal tone and range. From sweet and melodic to harsh and dark, he can do it all. One thing that wasn’t lacking was the consistent need to move around to the beats.

Track 3, “My Addiction” stood out among the rest as a favorite. It starts with a litte banjo country beat but quickly changes into the edgy rock sound Shallow Side shows through the whole album. Matt Daniels and Seth Trimble really rock out on the strings for this radio ready track.

Track 4, “Crazy” is an emotionally riveting ballad. Eric’s voice beautifully tells the story of going crazy missing someone your miles away from. Everyone has felt what it’s like to be lonely, making this a very relate-able song for the listeners.

The last two tracks are acoustic versions of “Try To Fight It” and “Out Of Reach”. They give listeners a chance to hear Shallow Side on the softer side. Sweet and gentle with the music and vocals. It’s almost like listening to them from the inside. Fans will appreciate these intimate tracks.

Overall this album is a great ramp up for the full length release. A few more original tracks would have been great to hear but the tease is good. They have a sound that fans of Saliva, Soil and Seether will happily embrace.
