NYC’s prodigious retro-future disco funk duo The Knocks are riding high on the recent release of their “55″ LP (STREAM) but took the time to churn out an irresistible remix of Justin Bieber‘s hit new single “Company” (STREAM), celebrating an announced pair of shows in support of global superstar Justin Bieber, taking place May 13th and 14th (in Ottawa and Quebec, respectively). The Knocks have a busy summer of festival shows slated as well, including performances at Bonnaroo, Governor’s Ball, Outside Lands and more coming soon.
The Knocks’ new album “55″ is a resolutely DIY electronic album, that features star-studded vocal contributions from Alex Newell, Cam’ron, Carly Rae Jepsen, Fetty Wap, Justin Tranter, Magic Man, Matthew Koma, Phoebe Ryan, POWERS, Walk The Moon, Wyclef Jean, and X Ambassadors. Rolling Stone described the album as “a multi-headed celebration that gathers singers from all over the musical map and lets them take star turns over group’s feisty, banging beats,” while SPIN described it as “a very specific, warm, and essential part of the past made modern.” The Knocks are a New York story through & through, first meeting at age 19 in a studio while attending the New School. In 2008, JPatt and B-Roc took out a loan and opened the HeavyRoc studio at 55 Chrystie, in the same broken-down building where the Beastie Boys used to rehearse. Ever since, the duo’s been working on original material and remixes for the likes of Katy Perry, Passion Pit, Ellie Goulding and Icona Pop.
