Dru Cutler’s “Oceanside” Single

Dru Cutler’s follow-up to his debut 2016 album Familiar is coming soon. In anticipation of the release of Bring Closer The Distance, Cutler released a single with a surprising B-side track.

Cutler is an independent singer/songwriters that can easily play alone with his acoustic guitar and baritone voice or be backed up by a full band. He does both. For his new album, he’s enlisted some fantastic musicians, as you’ll hear when you get a chance to give it a listen.

The fact that Cutler has been playing music since the age of 14, when he spent $100 on a pawn shop guitar and started a punk band, shows in his more adult music these days. He’s definitely not making raucous punk tunes anymore. Instead, his music is deep and soulful. He also shares the same baritone register as the late Leonard Cohen, making for some hauntingly alluring songs.

“Oceanside” is the single that will make you yearn for the full album. It’s a song with a rustic side that is completely life altering. It has some rhythmic drumming that is hard to ignore. The lyrics are pure storytelling. Cutler’s vocals have you feeling as though you can hear the waves crashing.

There’s a wave in my heart and it’s saying goodbye

I don’t care if it’s broken. . . I need the waves of the ocean

Some kinda feeling

I’m healing.

The B-side to this song is Cutler’s own rendition of “Dance Me To The End Of Love. ” This version is the tiniest bit more upbeat than the original. You’ll love this version even if you’re a diehard Leonard Cohen fan. Still haunting and still beautiful. Cutler’s voice is spot on.

If you are a fan of Leonard Cohen, you’ll find something special in the music of Dru Cutler. He has also been compared to the creative lyricist Ryan Adams. Both of these tracks are five-star songs, worth putting on repeat.
