Buckcherry's Warpaint

Buckcherry is we to release their 8th studio album, Warpaint March 8 of this year. This album shows the band’s roots with classic rock influences, and themes of grit throughout the album.

Opening the album is title track, “Warpaint.” This song is an instant hit to me. There’s hints of AC/DC in this track that instantly triggers a nostalgia for me and gives me a fondness for it. The great beat and loud vocals give it a great energy that gets blood pumping right away. The chorus is catchy and had me singing along instantly, but on closer listening, the lyrics are encouraging to survive your problems and own your survivorship…or just drink away your problems. Either way, I liked the chorus, and the whole song has a great vibe. “I wanna kiss the night away. I wanna sleep all through the day. Forget all my problems, life is a hard one tattooed on my face. It’s my Warpaint!”

Buckcherry covered Nine Inch Nails’ “Head Like A Hole.” You may or may not like covers, but I, for one, love covers. It plays a great homage to the original artist, and I love it when artists put their own style to it. This cover is close to the original, but I love the fresh energy Buckcherry brings to it, as NIN’s original had an 80’s synth sound to it. Buckcherry also released a music video to this track, so definitely check it out. It nods to Trent Reznor and his work with the original video. I loved the simplicity of the moody lighting and the extreme close ups of the instruments, while giving the band members a mystery in the shadows.

Closing the album, Devil in the Details is the perfect rock song to end an album. The swelling music in the beginning has a cinematic feel to it as it builds the anticipation. The staccato vocals opening it with “LA…Witchita…Mardis Gras.. The Devil’s in the details” gets your body moving on its own. The stifled laugh just before the vocals subconsciously makes this song a fun track, and the speed guitar amps up the energy the whole album’s had.

“Crazy Bitch” is what Buckcherry is most known for, and a favorite of mine, but I’d venture to say that this album does justice to the band that “Crazy Bitch” just doesn’t. This album has enough influence of well-loved classic rock, and heavy rock and screaming vocals to make any rock fan enjoy listening to the album, and feel it to their bones. It’s a great album that encompasses what Rock N Roll is.

Warpaint is out March 8, and the band goes on their North American tour immediately following, so check out their touring schedule on their facebook page and catch them live, and pick up a copy of their album!
