In This Moment guitarist, Randy Weitzel, along with VIMIC guitarist, Steve Marshall have just finished producing their second release for their band, Blackfall, Volume II. Other band members include Alexis Dunlap on vocals, Elaina Bangma on bass, and Kent Dimmel on percussion.
I was expecting a face-melting album knowing Randy Weitzel was playing for Blackfall, and their album art is really dark. I was surprised at how mellow the album is, and it’s a really soothing listen. It was refreshing to listen to an all acoustic band. The vocals on the album were celestial with the harmonies and soothing notes. I had this album playing at my desk, and it played all day on repeat. Every track transitions into the other beautifully, and the calming melodies made it a great album to listen to in an office setting.
While I enjoyed every track on the album, “Everlife” stuck out to me the most with the Spanish guitar style throughout the song. With the leather drums playing, and an almost sitar-sound accompanying, it has a great cultured blend of influences.
I definitely recommend this album. It doesn’t have a mainstream musical sound at all, but the direction the band has taken this is a work of art.
