Thursday, September 10, Virginia Beach had a blast with Jason Aldean rolling into town! The Veterans United Home Loan Amphitheater had a sold out show. There was a sea of pick up trucks, tailgate parties, and boots & cowboy hats.
The night started with newcomer, Mackenzie Carpenter opening the night. She’s the quintessential country girl with her pink rhinestone and tassel mini skirt, songs about fishing (murdering husbands) and wild nights. Her voice was reminiscent of Shania Twain, and her band was so fun to watch on stage.
Dee Jay Silver was in between sets and he got everyone dancing with YMCA and Copper Ridge Road.
Chase Matthew was next and his crowd interaction was topnotch. Even though there were tens of thousands of people in the crowd, he made a connection with everyone, including a huge selfie with the crowd.
Finally Jason Aldean comes out. AC/DC’s Hell’s Bells introduced him. When he began playing Hicktown, the massive LCD screen splits in half to reveal him and his band. The set design was just as great as his set with lightning and scaffolding behind him, giving off a cyberpunk, industrial vibe.
He played for an hour and a half and the energy throughout the night was palpable. Maybe it was because it was the eve of the 9/11 anniversary, but that crowd felt like the 9/12/01 people where everyone was smiling with one another, dancing together and being courteous, without even knowing who that person was. Toby Keith’s Courtesy of the USA played in between sets, so that definitely attributed to the 9/12 feeling, but overall, this show felt very unifying and like one big house party.
