Candlebox “Disappearing In Airports”

What do you expect might happen if immersed in Candlebox for several days straight?  One might reminisce about tightly laced Doc Martins or cringe at the embarrassing school photos wearing the flannel shirt with the neon laser background.  All this nostalgia from the 1990’s might make one start to feel a bit grungy…pun completely intended.  Personally, I can’t shake the self-titled album that started it all for the band in 1993. The one that depicted the long-haired rockers wading through a field of daffodils.  Seriously though, this is a great album.  To this day, I can’t bring myself to turn the station when “Far Behind” plays, even though I’ve listened to it a million times, often belting it out like its nobody’s business.

Candlebox released so many great songs over the years and they’re about to do it again on April 22nd with their newest album Disappearing in Airports.  This piece opens with a fresh track called “Only Because of You” and moves to “Vexacious”.  Kevin Martin’s vocals are clearly the same iconic tone you’d expect to hear, except this time it’s layered with something new.  It’s almost as if the band wants the listener to pick up on their edgy vibe, proving they can keep up with the cool kids and modern-day musical expectations.

Tracks like “Supernova” and “God’s Gift” loop back around to the group’s origins.  There’s no shortage of bluesy guitar solos, incessant drumming and crisp songwriting.  The sound produced this time around is a bit more mature compared to previous albums. Members Mike Leslie, Adam Kury, Brian Quinn and Dave Krusen have created something worth having a listen.  Now go check it out.
