10 Years’ (How To Live) As Ghosts

This eighth studio album from Tennessee rockers 10 Years marks a return, or maybe a rebirth, of a band that was said to be done with the business of recording. Their prior album, From Birth To Burial, was supposed to be their last, released in April of 2015. Then October 2017 rolls around and now we have (How To Live) As Ghosts.

10 Years is a rock band that consists of Jesse Hasek on Lead Vocals, Matt Wantland on Guitar, Brian Vodinh on Guitar, Chad Huff on Bass, and Kyle Mayer on Drums. They are probably best known for their song “Wasteland,” from their 2005 album The Autumn Effect. It was a hot song that got tons of radio play at the time and spent some time on a few Billboard lists, including the number one slot for Hot Modern Rock Tracks.

For this new album, 10 Years keeps up their modern rock sound. You’ll still recognize this band by their sound. They haven’t sold out or made any major changes, so old fans can rest assured that this is a solid album.

With eleven songs, “Novacaine” (yes, that’s the correct spelling on the album) is the first song that really stands out. It’s the second song on the album. This song has a stellar beat of pure rock goodness. It’s a song you can nod your head to and totally get into.

The entire album is laden with guitar riffs that keep the rock alive. The lyrics lean toward kind of a dystopian future, things aren’t always brighter on the other side. There are no rainbows and puppy dogs here. It definitely lives up to the past awesomeness of this band and will make you hopeful that there will be even more music from them in the future.

While some songs stand out more than others, like “Novacaine” and “Burnout”, the entire album is listen-worthy and none of the songs fall short. This is an A+ “return” from 10 Years.
