Trevor Zegras Scores in OT as Philadelphia Rallies for Victory at Xfinity Mobile Arena

The Philadelphia Flyers defeated the Dallas Stars by a score of 2-1 in overtime on Sunday night at Xfinity Mobile Arena.

Trevor Zegras scored the game-winning goal at 3:27 of overtime, assisted by Cam York and Samuel Ersson, to complete Philadelphia’s comeback victory. Travis Konecny tied the game 1-1 in the second period with a power-play goal before Zegras ended it in the extra frame. Samuel Ersson stopped 17 of 18 shots to earn the win in front of 13,120 fans.

Arttu Hyry scored for Dallas in the second period, but the Stars couldn’t hold the lead. Casey DeSmith made 28 saves in the losing effort.

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Period:

Neither team found the back of the net in a scoreless opening period.

Second Period:

Travis Konecny opened the scoring at 9:48 on the power play, driving the puck to the net from below the goal line and wrapping it around past Casey DeSmith’s left pad after passing back and forth with Matvei Michkov, assisted by Michkov and Rasmus Ristolainen, to give Philadelphia a 1-0 lead. Arttu Hyry answered for Dallas at 17:53 with an unassisted shorthanded goal after Jamie Drysdale fell tracking back into Philadelphia’s zone, allowing Hyry to snap a shot far side over Samuel Ersson’s glove from the left faceoff dot to tie the game 1-1 heading into the third period.

Third Period:

Both goaltenders stood tall as neither team could break through, sending the game to overtime tied 1-1.

Overtime:

Trevor Zegras won it for Philadelphia at 3:27, carrying the puck up the right side of the Dallas zone and snapping a shot through Casey DeSmith’s five-hole, assisted by Cam York and Samuel Ersson, to seal the 2-1 victory.

GOALTENDING

Samuel Ersson earned the win with 17 saves on 18 shots (.944 SV%) for Philadelphia, also recording an assist on Zegras’ overtime winner.

Casey DeSmith took the overtime loss for Dallas, stopping 28 of 30 shots (.933 SV%).
