Trivium's In the Court of the Dragon

Trivium just released their TENTH studio album, In the Court of the Dragon. In this monumental record for the band, it “delivers a definitive statement cast in ironclad guitar fireworks, pummeling rhythms, lyrical provocations, and stadium-shaking choruses. It springs from the past, seizes the present, and hints at the future of Trivium—and metal—all at once.” Bassist, Paolo Gregoletto says “Getting to album 10 felt momentous. Not many bands get this far, so it had to live up to being the 10th record. We didn’t know if we were going to be able to tour, so it had to still be impressive enough to keep everyone’s attention. It was the sole focus for the last ten months. We had to make sure we met the bar we’ve set for our fans and ourselves.”

“As far as the meaning goes, there is no right or wrong answer,” says Matt Heafy, vocalist. “I want people to come up with their own interpretations of everything they hear, see, and experience on In The Court of the Dragon. Of course, I’m obsessed with Scandinavian stories, Vikings, Japanese history, and the tales of Odin, Thor, Ragnarok, and the end of the world, Paolo was like, ‘Why don’t we create our own mythology?’ We’ve definitely used pre-existing myths for inspiration in the past. We created our own myth now.”

The opening track, titled “X” as a nod to their 10th album, sets the stage for the album with its cinematic introductory music. It’s music I would expect in a high-action mythology movie. As the intro track fades to black, title track “In the Court of the Dragon” comes out the gate with that face-melting speed and precision Trivium is known for.

“Fall Into Your Hands” is a fast favorite of mine off this album. It originated from Matt’s Twitch stream and has evolved into an 8 minute song “of the most epic compositions in the band’s catalog.” It begins with a mythical sounds cymbal rhythm, then goes into that deep screaming black metal and evolves into the softer melodic chorus and features speed guitar solos throughout. This track highlights the bands extreme versatility and what this album encompasses with their melding of different metal genres or mythology to create their own.

In the Court of the Dragon is out now on all major streaming and purchasing platforms. Get your copy of the bands latest masterpiece and follow them on social media for all touring updates.
