Slash Featuring Myles Kennedy: The River Is Rising Tour

Slash dropped his latest release with Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators on February 11th. The album titled 4 hit the Billboard US Top Rock Album charts at number 13 and has produced the single “The River Is Rising”. Fans can purchase the new album HERE. The tour which has criss-crossed the country and will have hit twenty-eight cities when it wraps up at Hard Rock Live in Orlando, FL is in its final weeks.

Side Stage Magazine was lucky enough to catch two stops of the tour, the first being The Fillmore in Silver Spring, MD followed by the band’s stop in Richmond, VA at Dominion Energy Center a week later.

Fans lined up early to get into the venues for their chance to buy up the latest merchandise as well as get entered to win an Epiphone Les Paul guitar hand signed by Slash himself.

Plush was the opener for the Fillmore show, the all-female rock band from upstate New York played an energetic seven song set to get things started for the evening. The set included the singles “Athena” and “Hate” from the band’s self-titled debut album as well as a cover of Heart’s “Barracuda”. The highlight of the band’s set was definitely “Barracuda” which could hold its own against the original version performed by Heart. This is a band to keep an eye out for!

For the Richmond show it was Tash Neal with MJT who got things started.

For Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators both nights featured the same setlist, however the two venues differed quite a bit with The Fillmore being your typical general admission concert venue and the Dominion Energy Center being a seated theater which gave the nights performance a more intimate feel. Fans of all ages filled both venues to capacity for their chance to be up close and personal with the iconic guitarist best known for his role in Guns-n-Roses, and oh yeah the vocalist just happens to be Myles Kennedy. The rest of the band known as the Conspirators consists of, Frank Sidoris on guitar, Todd Kerns on bass as well as vocals, and Brent Fitz on drums.

Unlike in years past the current tour setlist is void of any Guns-n-Roses material however does span Slash’s solo career reaching all the way back to 1995 with “Speed Parade” from It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere released by Slash’s Snakepit. As can be expected the tour’s setlist has a heavy amount of material from the latest release 4, the rest of the setlist is rounded out with hits like “Shots Fired,” “World on Fire,” and is wrapped up with “Anastasia”. Bassist Todd Kerns gets in on the vocal action when takes the center mic for “Doctor Alibi,” and the cover of Lenny Kravitz’s “Always on the Run”. For me the biggest highlight of the night, was the bands cover of Elton John’s “Rocket Man”. If anyone ever questioned Slash’s skills on the guitar they need to look no further than the closing song of the night, “Anastasia” where Slash puts on an absolute guitar clinic with his blistering solos during the ten minute encore. Overall the show is nearly two hours of the talented vocals of Myles Kennedy and the amazing guitar skills of the one and only Slash. This, as is any tour with Slash is a must see!
