Set It Off's Midnight - Side Stage Magazine

Set it Off is releasing their new album, Midnight, February 1st. This album packs a punch with 15 new songs, collaborating with other artists and fusing different sounds for an energetic pop album. Vocalist, Cody Carson, discusses this album as a significant milestone marking change for the band. “Midnight signifies change. It’s changing into a new day, and we are changing into our new lives.”

The first track, “Killer in the Mirror” is the perfect start for the album. It has this great electric intro, and the hook “killer in the mirror” to sing along to. As their first single released for the album, it’s had great reception with an instant 1 million views on YouTube.

I really loved “Go To Bed Angry” and the collaboration with Wayfarers. This song had a sultry sound to it, and including female vocals on this track really elevated that and gave it a romantic chemistry.

“Unopened Windows” slows down the album as it nears the end with a beautiful piano melody. The lyric opening the second verse really stood out to me. “I’m sick of hearing that time always heals. Try to tell that to my scars. Sure, it stopped the bleeding and it’s harder to feel, but it really left a mark.” It really spoke to me about grief and that it’s OK to not be OK for a while.

Cody adds about Midnight “It’s okay to be imperfect. It’s okay to open up, be 100% genuine, and wear your emotions on your sleeve. At the same time, try to better yourself at every turn. We want our music to be a good influence on people. We’re building a fan base and a culture by sharing who we are. It’s a new chapter for all of us.” The unique sound of the album as they mixed musical techniques got me listening to the album, and the deep lyrics got me thinking and really appreciating their music. This album definitely hits and surpasses the mark that they were aiming for.
