Saliva's 10 Lives

Ladies and gentlemen, please, would you bring your attention to me?” Saliva is releasing their tenth album, 10 Lives, later this week. The band says this album represents where they are at their career, and “we feel stronger than ever. 10 Lives is about never giving up and grinding daily.” This album definitely does feel that way with their classic, but refreshed sound.

“Only the Strong Survive” is the perfect song to showcase all aspects of the bands range, with their shredding guitar, heavy drums, gritty vocals, melodious chorus, and southern-rock style chanting lyrics. This is one of those songs that makes you feel like a badass singing along. “Run your mouth, you’re going to get knocked out. I ain’t playing, that’s the price you paying, bitch!”

“Some Shit About Love” was released in August of this year, and adopts a new sound for the band. Opening the song with a funky/pop beat reminds me of Blur’s “Woohoo,” but the gritty vocals and hard guitar add that perfect heavy vibe to the song, which offers a perfect landscape to open the song with “you get me drunk and skip the foreplay,” which instantly has you listening to the lyrics rather than the melody as Bobby Amaru sings about what a crappy girl is stringing him along and saying “Some Shit About Love,” and waking up as a completely different sober person when the honeymoon is over. I also love the nod to their earlier single of “Always” in this song.

“Close to the Ledge”  is another great track that showcases each band member’s talents as it opens with deep, pounding drums and has Swinny’s signature shredding solo.

I always love when a hard rock band does a slow song, and “One More Night” is that song on this album. It features more of Swinny’s epic solos, but I can also hear Bobby’s acoustic guitar and his softer vocals, that don’t get showcased often.

If you’re a fan of Saliva, make sure you pick up this album! This album just brings MORE. It maintains the sound and style they came out with 20 years ago, but its heavier, fresh and they’ve incorporated other genres seamlessly into their heavy rock mix. What’s great about this album is each member is heard distinctly, yet harmoniously showing that are definitely stronger than ever.

10 Lives is currently available for preorder, and will be available to purchase or stream October 19. Follow their social media for updates www.facebook.com/saliva
