New Music With A Nostalgiac Vibe From Nehedar

Emilia Cataldo recently released a new album and I can’t stop talking about it. The album isn’t under her name. It’s Nehedar, and the album title is Hello Abyss. This NYC singer/songwriter has created something amazing here and I am glad I get to tell you about it.

I likened her sound to that of Everything But The Girl, Natalie Merchant, and even Suzanne Vega. The press release (and my boyfriend) compared her sound to Regina Spektor and Ani DiFranco. Basically, if you like a strong female vocal with pop sensibilities and a unique/eclectic sound, you will love this album and Cataldo’s vocals. She’s amazingly talented.

As you listen to this album, which is available on Bandcamp for whatever price you want to pay for it (I suggest a decent amount because it is well worth it), you will definitely hear the fact that she has been professionally singing since like 2003. She’s a pro and it is evident. The sounds on this album are much like the sounds of pop and synth music from the 80s and 90s, which made me love it even more.

While the whole album is well done and worth a listen, my favorite songs are “Shedding Skin,” “You’re Beautiful When You Fall Apart,” and “Tonight Tonight.” I also enjoyed the video for “The Story.” If you want something that sounds unique among the musical talent of today, but also has a sound that is nostalgic, you’ve come to the right place.
