Monument of a Memory's Ex Mortis

Monument of a Memory are a five piece metal group out of Bergen County, New Jersey. Fairly new to the metal scene, they have began to make a big name for themselves. They released a third EP, Ex Mortis, in January, 2018. These five tracks show that the band has grown a lot since their first EP,  Dreamwalker, released just three years ago.

As metal music continues to evolve, bands like Monument of a Memory, have found a way to combine a multitude of genres into their music. Their music cannot be defined by one alone. Attempting to do this and actually achieving it are two completely different things. It’s easy to hear with Ex Mortis that they are nailing it. They have shared the stage with many major metal acts, like The Devil Wears Prada, Battlecross and Motionless in White and are currently on an East Coast tour with Icaria.

Monument of a Memory:

Kevin Chapilliquen – Guitar

Eren Guney – Guitar

Josh Correa – Bass

Dylan Newhouse – Drums

Ex Mortis is a unique piece of art dropped from the metal gods above. Chaotic melodies and shattering screams accompanied by loud and crazy blast beats. Truly a work that shouldn’t be ignored by metal fans everywhere. There is something for all on this album. A couple real stand out tracks were “Cold Eyes” and “Ex Mortis”. The guitars in “Cold Eyes” feel like a choreographed dance between two dancers rather than guitarists. Through the beautiful melody comes this face melting scream and just like that, the intensity grows throughout the song. The band recently released a video here: https://youtu.be/QwTywNL1_hY “Ex Mortis” starts out darker than the rest. Deeper tones, drawn out beats but grows into a beautiful work of eclectic melody. Finishing off the EP with this track was a great choice. The entire EP can be purchased online at www.monumentofamemory.com for only $4.99. It can also be found on Spotify and iTunes.

Rating: 4/5

Originality being the main focus of this rating. Monument of a Memory is a refreshing sound to hear, breaking away from the pop sounds that have been flowing through the metal world recently.
