Lucky 757's Lonesome Lagoon

Two songs in you’ll realize that this band has found an amazing way to combine the sounds of Mariachi music with surf rock. It’s like watching an old western with waves splashing in the background. Each song is more mesmerizing than the last.

Lucky 757 is a rockabilly/surf rock band hailing from Portsmouth, VA. Their name comes from the area code where they are based. The band has been together since 2014, and are comprised of father/son duo Danny (rhythm guitar and backup vocals) and Cory (lead vocals and lead guitar). On the rhythm section are Sam Haga (upright bass, electric bass, producer, and backup vocals) and Angel Lopez (all things drums and percussion, backup vocals)

This music swings the 50s and 60s vibe, especially in the track “Reflecting.” Most of the songs have an upbeat vibe that will make you want to groove, but even this track’s slower vibe gives you a romantic slow-dance feeling.

There’s something amazing about this music that makes it difficult to stop listening once you start.

One of the songs that stands out the most on this album is “Spanish Shore.” It’s the opening track, and it has a tight surf rock sound. It will make you nostalgic for beach flicks and a boogie board. This album gets six out of five stars, simply for being the most creative and unique collection of songs (without lyrics) to come out this year (and because the talent behind this band is fantastic).
