Billed as the World’s Largest Rock ‘N’ Roll Whiskey Festival, Louder Than Life more than lived up to the title as it made its debut at Highland Festival Grounds at KY Expo Center, which will be home to festival for several years. Over 128,000 fans braved scorching temperatures as they filled the festival grounds over the course of three days to see some of the top names in heavy metal and rock.

Day one kicked off shortly after 1 p.m. with Wilson getting things started over on the Oak Stage. Fans were treated to 17 bands spread across three stages. The smaller of the three stages, the Loudmouth Stage, saw acts like Santa Cruz, Dead Posey, Crown Lands, The Crystal Method, and GWAR who closed out the day’s events on the third stage. Over on the main stages it was bands like New Years Day, Philip H Anselmo & The Illegals, who performed a blistering set of Pantera songs, Motionless in White, Beartooth, I Prevail, Chevelle who wrapped up their current U.S. tour at the festival, A Day To Remember, Staind who performed for the first time in five years, and the days events closed out over on the Barrel Stage with Slipknot a 90 minute set.

Day two saw a wide range of acts take to the stages from the murder folk music of Amigo The Devil who kicked things off around 12:30, the old school thrash of Suicidal Tendancies, the iconic rapper Ice Cube, and ending the day with the classic heavy metal of Guns n’ Roses. Other bands to take to the stages were Anti-Flag, Badflower, Stone Temple Pilots, Dropkick Murphys, Halestorm, and Godsmack. One of our favorite performances of the day happened to be pretty early on with Los Angeles’ Dirty Honey. The guys hit the stage and wowed fans with their 70’s classic rock sound. This was a band that caught our eye for sure. The big attraction of the day was the closing set of Guns n’ Roses who despited going on 45 minutes late still played an incredible twenty-eight song set to close out the night.

Day 3 of the festival saw more amazing bands take to the stages thru out the day. The festival held no punches with the day’s lineup as bands like Sum 41, Three Days Grace, In This Moment, Breaking Benjamin, Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, and finally Disturbed who closed out the weekend’s events. One of the many highlights of the day was Deadland Ritual closing out the Loudmouth stage, many may not know who this band is but for those who missed the performance were kicking themselves Monday morning. The band consisting of none other than Geezer Butler, Franky Perez, Steve Stevens, and Matt Sorum played a twelve-song set that consisted of Black Sabbath, Billy Idol, and Velvet Revolver covers as well as a few of their own material mixed in. Over on the main stages, it was the performance of Rob Zombie that had many people talking. Rob and company are no stranger to the festival circuit and never disappoint.
