Sun, surf and sand were the setting, ska, punk and emo were the sounds, as 37,000 fans of all ages converged at Huntington State Beach in Southern California on Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28 for the second annual KROQ, Travis Barker and John “Feldy” Feldmann Present Back To The Beach. blink-182, Goldfinger and The Used led a music lineup that also included Reel Big Fish, The Story So Far, Anthony Green, and many more.

At Saturday’s sold-out show, blink-182 treated fans to a first-ever live performance of their Enema Of The State album in its entirety, marking the multiplatinum pop-punk classic’s 20th anniversary. For the second year in a row, Goldfinger’s memorable set turned into an all-star jam, featuring special guest appearances from Sublime With Rome’s Rome Ramirez, 311’s Nick Hexum, The English Beat’s Dave Wakeling, Save Ferris’s Monique Powell, former Goldfinger guitarist Charlie Paulson, and more. Sunday highlights included John Feldmann joining headliners The Used for “All That I’ve Got” and Travis Barker playing drums on Anthony Green’s “Dear Child (I’ve Been Dying To Reach You).” The Used also performed an emotional cover of Linkin Park’s “Shadow Of The Day,” which vocalist Bert McCracken dedicated to the late Chester Bennington. In what can only be described as a truly remarkable moment during the song, the skies opened up and it started to rain for a brief shower, aptly ending as the song came to a close.

In addition, The Used’s set featured a guest appearance from Street Drum Corps, and the band welcomed longtime fan and the Livin’ The Dream Foundation’s guest Kelvin and his family to the stage for a song.

The family-friendly event featured additional entertainment for children 10 and under in the Lil’ Punk KidZone, including tunes spun by 13-year-old DJ De Crazy Cat and performances by kid band The Twits. The Lil’ Punk KidZone offered healthy, kid-friendly food options, along with games and activities including scavenger hunts, mermaid photo ops, hula hoop instruction, face painting, cartoonist, palm reader, hair braiding, and a giant cornhole game.

Here is what some of the press had to say about Back To The Beach:

“One area where Back to the Beach truly succeeded was making sure there was something for everybody.”
                                                – Brittany Woolsey, OC Weekly, 4/29/19

“Stepping into a festival like this one, where you can bring your children to play in the sand, and watch your favorite artists from 20 years ago perform on stage, while their children look on as well, adds a level of sentimentality that doesn’t exist in many places. Back to the Beach is everything you could have wished for in the ‘90s, come to life in the world of today. Fans of all ages got to turn their ska-punk dreams into a reality, in the very place that allowed the genre to flourish.”
                                                – Sari Cohen, AXS.com, 5/1/19

Back to the Beach not only brought out the ‘90s nostalgia but it was able to welcome a family friendly environment for all ages to enjoy.”
                                                – Anthony Carrera, The Hornet (Fullerton College), 4/29/19

The full music lineup for Back To The Beach included blink-182, Goldfinger, Reel Big Fish, Streetlight Manifesto, The Aquabats, Save Ferris, The English Beat and The Drowns on Saturday; and The Used, The Story So Far, Anthony Green, The Wonder Years, Less Than Jake, Story Of The Year, Teenage Wrist and Lowlives on Sunday.
