Kiss Freedom To Rock Tour, Richmond Coliseum 9/9/2016

Written By: Brandon Delano

Its been sixteen long years since Kiss played Richmond, VA, but Friday night they returned to the Richmond Coliseum. Their last appearance at the Coliseum was during the Kiss Farewell Tour after the original lineup featuring Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley, and Peter Criss had reunited. Although the lineup may have changed the music is as strong as ever sixteen years later, proven by over thirteen thousand fans who came out to witness one of the greatest bands in rock n roll history. With the patented “You Wanted The Best, You Got The Best. The Hottest Band In The World….KISS!” the pyrotechnics went off, the curtain dropped, and the band kicked off the night with their 1976 classic “Detroit Rock City”. The guys went on to play a sixteen song setlist that included solos by Gene and Tommy, with Gene spitting blood during his solo. The night’s performance also saw Gene breathe fire during “War Machine”, and Paul fly out to the center of the coliseum during “Love Gun”. During the show Richmond’s mayor Dwight Jones presented the band with the key to the city to recognize the group for all their philanthropic efforts. The night wrapped up with a three song encore that included the all-time classics “Beth” and “Rock and Roll All Night”. With forty-three years under their belts, its no wonder Kiss continues to pack fans into coliseums and arenas night after night and Friday’s performance was no exception. Lets hope it doesn’t take another sixteen years for them to come back to town.

Gene Simmons also made a special appearance at the Richmond Comic Con on Friday and Saturday, where he was promoting his line of custom AXE bass guitars. Fans were able to meet Gene, where he took time to sign autographs and take pictures with fans during a brief meet and greet on each day, giving fans the opportunity to meet a true rock legend.
