King Diamond At The Modell Lyric In Baltimore, MD 11-11-2019

Written By: Brandon Delano

King Diamond brought his North American tour to Baltimore’s The Modell Lyric on Monday night. The tour is in support of his upcoming release, Institute which is slated to be released sometime in 2020. The album will be the first studio release since 2007’s Give Me Your Soul… Please. King Diamond released the first single on Friday, “Masquerade of Madness” gives fans a taste of what to expect with the upcoming album. Fans can get a listen to the new single below.

The theater of The Modell Lyric made for the perfect venue for the night’s performance allowing fans to be fully engulfed in the elaborate stage production of the show. The stage, set up to resemble an old asylum featured staircases on each side that led up to two balconies. At the top of the second balcony, a red inverted cross was the centerpiece as it hung over Matt Thompson’s drum kit. The show began with King Diamond being wheeled out through a door laying on a wheeled stretcher. King Diamond quickly rose from the stretcher walked to the back wall and flipped a large electrical switch as the rest of the band descended down the staircases from the upper balcony and launched into “The Candle,” and quickly moved into “Behind These Walls,” and “Arrival.” At the end of “Voodoo” King Diamond took a minute to introduce the band which consists of Matt Thompson on drums, Pontus Egberg on bass, Andy LaRocque, and Mike Wead on guitars. The night consisted of an eleven song set followed by a two-song encore consisting of “Burn,” and “Black Horseman,” which was dedicated to Timi Hansen who passed away on November 4th. Fans expect to see a great theatrical performance at any King Diamond show and the current tour does not disappoint in the slightest and both the band and King Diamond sounded top-notch. The “Institute Tour” is one tour no King Diamond fan is going to want to miss.

The tour will crisscross the country before wrapping up in Phoenix, AZ on December 4th. Fans can purchase tickets and VIP packages HERE
