In This Moment just released their ninth full-length album, Witch, August 28th. This album embraces their signature sound, but turns the dial up to 11. The album features some incredible artists, with Kim Dracula, Dayseeker and Kat Von D joining them.
“WITCH is my declaration of inner transformation,” states frontwoman Maria Brink. “It’s about embracing the duality within – taking pain, persecution, and struggle – and alchemizing them into strength and power. The album reflects both ancient trials and my own journey –where being a ‘witch’ means being a creator, connected to the universe, manifesting my own reality.”
This album casts a spell on the listener. Be prepared to be bewitched.
The second track on the album, “I Want To Believe” has an accompanying cinematic music video. It’s enchanting with dark visuals on 35mm film with flickering lights and lots of lowlight noise. It brings the nostalgia of Nosferatu into this song. Brink and Dayseeker’s Rory Rodriguez’ vocals pair perfectly. “‘I Want To Believe’ is a flicker of light you protect as shadows close in…it’s the quiet fight to believe in light while the world shifts, knowing that even as one chapter fades, another will dawn,” says Brink of the track.
Honestly, why has it taken 9 albums before Kim Dracula and In This Moment teamed up? I can’t think of a more natural fit than in “Heretic.” If you single out this track and listen on its own, it could come from either Kim Dracula’s or ITM’s camp, and their collaboration is just on point with their raspy, quasi-rapping cadence, guttural vocals, and heavy instrumentals.
“Another Brick In The Wall” is a track I was excited for. I think KVD and ITM are a great collab, and this is such a classic song that I love to see covered. ITM has that perfect balance of making this their song, but doesn’t completely take it from Pink Floyd. The techno beat with the ethereal vocals really sets the tone of brainwashing, and Maria’s metal “Hey, teacher, leave those kids alone” gives more visual weight to the song than the original ever did, in my respectfully humble opinion.
This new album kicks off a new era where In This Moment is amplifying everything with their new mantra: “Your voice, our flame. Set your truth on fire.”
This new era calls for a new tour, beginning September 15 in Pittsburgh. They will also be on Taste of Chaos’s tour and hitting 29 cities. Follow their social media and get your tickets now and get your copy of their new album.
