Godsmack At The MGM National Harbor 7-24-2019

Written By: Brandon Delano

On Wednesday night one of the must-see summer tours made a stop at the MGM National Harbor. The tour headlined by Godsmack and featuring special guest New Years Day is giving fans the chance to see one of the top touring bands in smaller more intimate venues.  Fans filled the theater at the MGM for a night that would give them an arena-sized show up close and personal.

With only two bands on the lineup fans were given a chance to see an extended opening set by New Years Day who has been out headlining their own tour before jumping on this quick run with Godsmack. New Years Day released their fourth full-length album, Unbreakable back in April. The night’s set came mostly from the band’s last two albums with the Pantera cover of “Fucking Hostile” thrown in for good measures. It seems with each tour the band wins over more and more fans. New Years Day will team back up with long-time touring mates In This Moment and Halestorm for a fall run with several festival appearances sprinkled in as well. Fans can purchase the new album as well as purchase tickets and VIP packages for the upcoming tours HERE.

New Years Day Setlist: Come for Me, Kill or Be Killed, Fucking Hostile (Pantera cover), Shut Up, Skeletons, Epidemic, Scream, and Defame Me.

Godsmack has been out touring pretty extensively since the release of their latest album, When Legends Rise which has produced three number one singles, a first for the guys. On top of producing multiple number-one singles, the album has hit the number one spot on several of Billboard’s charts including the US Top Hard Rock, and the US Top Rock Albums charts. The guys are currently wrapping up this quick two-week run which has also included festival headlining appearances at this year’s Inkcarceration and Impact Music Festivals. Don’t look for the guys to take to much of a break after this tour as they will be heading back out for a September run with Halestorm. That tour is set to kick off on September 20th in Madison, WI and run thru October 18th when it wraps up in Tulsa, OK. Fans can purchase tickets and VIP packages HERE.

The guys kicked off their 90 mnuteplus set with the title track to the latest album, “When Legends Rise” and ran thru a  sixteen song set that was filled with hit after hit. One of the highlights of any Godsmack show is always “Batalla de los tambores” which showcases Sully Erna’s ability behind the drum kit as he duals with Shannon Larkin. For playing a smaller venue the band still caught fans off guard as they provided some small pyro during the set, something you dont always get to see in the smaller venues. Another highlight of the night was the extended version of Joe Walsh’s “Rocky Mountain Way” during the band’s encore set. One thing you don’t see much of at a Godsmack show, are fans heading for the exits early, and Wednesday night was no different as fans stayed until the very end of “I Stand Alone” and continued their chants of Godsmack as the band left the stage.

Godsmack Setlist: When Legends Rise, 1000hp, Say My Name, Someday, Voodoo, Unforgettable, Awake, Take It to the Edge, Something Different, Keep Away, Batalla de los tambores, and Whatever.

Encore: Under Your Scars, Bulletproof, Rocky Mountain Way (Joe Walsh cover), and I Stand Alone.
