From Ashes to New's The Future

From Ashes to New just released their newest album, The Future. From their bio, the band claims to take their inspiration from life itself, and this album is proof of that. They blend so many different styles in every song, each one has a distinct sound that is the band’s signature, yet each song is different enough if can fit into a different genre than the previous.

Opening the album strong is “Wake Up.” The deep lyrics about the facade people put on to please others leaves listeners with a poignant message to be their true selves before they completely lose themselves to a fake persona. “How do you sleep when you’re nothing but a fake / How do you pretend you’re suddenly awake /

When you’re under a deep trance covering your face /

Can’t run from your demons, they’re numbering your days…/ Wake up (wake up)

/ You’re living a lie / So just open, open, open your eyes”

“Crazy” was released prior to the album release. It has a catchy tune and a theme of a toxic relationship. Opening the song with “Am I going crazy? Yeah I think you made me,” battles with how a toxic person affects the other person through the whole song. The lyrics even question the feelings, giving way to hints of gaslighting, a common problem among abuse.

“Let Go,” has a little heavier sound to it, and lyrics of hurt by losing someone. It’s unclear if the song is written from a standpoint of a broken relationship, or a death with lyrics singing of the pain of losing someone and not thinking that pain will ever go away. With the heavy instrumentals and the somber lyrics, this song is very cathartic in digging out those deep feelings of loss.

Ending the album with the title track, “The Future,” the album ends on a high note. The lyrics stating “we are the future…it’s a new day, and a new way, the future is here to bring a new game,” ties the album in with the band name that metaphors a Phoenix becoming a new creature out of ashes. On their biography, the band takes a stand that their band is one with a point of view. Their songs stick with themes of redemption, liberation and personal salvation. While this album has songs of brokenness and pain, this final song is an encouragement that those feelings don’t define the listener, and that there is always a brighter future.

The Future is a great album for any alternative rock fan. Their sound is reminiscent of P.O.D. and Linkin Park, but still unique to them. The deep lyrics are sure to jive with anyone who’s experienced life.

From Ashes to New will be kicking off a tour with Bad Wolves shortly after the release. Stay up-to-date on band news on facebook at www.facebook.com/FromAshesToNew, and look for their album on Spotify, iTunes, Amazon, and Google Play.
