If you remember the era of hyper-colored tees, slap bracelets and great music videos on MTV, then the soundtrack to your childhood likely included alternative rock bands featured on the “Summerland” tour. For the last six years, Art Alexis, front man of Everclear has been bringing ‘90s nostalgia back to fans with a traveling music festival offering the best bands with the most memorable songs from the era. Summerland’s 2018 lineup brought back first year opener, Marcy Playground and newcomer to the bill, Local H to share the stage with headliner, Everclear.
On Tuesday, May 5th the tour hit NYC to play the iconic Irving Plaza. Fans lined up early to get a prime spot for what appeared to be a nearly sold out show. Each band’s set consisted of songs from their most noted albums which allowed the crowd to flashback to the good old days when life was more carefree. Local H’s “Bound for the Floor”, Marcy Playground’s “Sex and Candy” and Everclear’s “Santa Monica” were clearly the top crowd favorites, energizing fans to dance and sing along. Between sets a DJ played ‘90s music to keep the party going and after the show, the bands greeted fans at the merch table and offered to take photos and sign memorabilia.
The Summerland tour allows fans a brief escape from the day to day monotony of adulthood, and is a perfect start to summer. Catch the tour on one of the remaining dates below:
