DED is releasing a Micro-EP this week, Mannequin Eyes and it slaps! It features two singles, “Mannequin Idol” and “Eyes Sewn Shut.” The forthcoming DED album will be the first release under Suretone Records’ renewed, multiple-year deal with ADA Worldwide for exclusive distribution.
“Mannequin Idol” is heavy and pumps you up, making you want to just fuck shit up. It’s full of guttural screams and balances with a heavy melodic chorus. I’m intrigued by the lyrics of the chorus “You just want a pretty face, to sing you a song, a lullaby that turns you on, but it’s all so fake…Do you really want a mannequin idol?”
“Eyes Sewn Shut” opens very soft and somber with piano, and the lyrics “I won’t be a slave and waste away every day living with my eyes sewn shut. As the world decays, I’ll remain. Tell me, have you had enough, living with your eyes sewn shut.” The lyrics really pack a punch as an intro to a super heavy song. I liked the repetitive lyrics throughout the song, making it quick to pick up to sing along to.
On both tracks, I was pulled into the lyrics. I feel like they’re singing about ignorance and about fake personalities. With the visuals painted in their lyrics, and their aesthetic on stage, I can’t want to see what kind of video will accompany these songs, and their full-length album, promised to come soon. You can pre-save this micro-EP here. It releases this week, on March 12. Follow DED on social media for news about upcoming tour dates and their upcoming release.
