The Swedish metal band, Corroded, just released their fifth album, Bitter and this is not an album you want to miss!
Being unfamiliar with Corroded, I popped in their album with open expectations. Looking at their album artwork, it was intriguing, but it still didn’t prepare me for what was to come–I’m still learning to not judge a book, or album, by its cover. Regardless of my expectations, or lack of any, I was pleasantly surprised.
The slow-moving introduction to the album gives the album a cinematic feel as it builds anticipation and channels Stranger Things just before its smooth transition into “Breathing.”
“Burn” stands out on the album. It’s the perfect song that encompasses the variety in their style and skill. It starts with their signature heavy sound, and Jens’ melodic vocals are sung throughout the track, saving those guttural notes for maximum impact for “Everything else must BURN.” The song then transitions to a soft instrumental. I thought it was a different song with the very soft, melodic music, then it picks up speed and beautifully blends the almost classical sound with their heavy sound. The overall album is great! I have to be honest, I like metal, and usually Swedish metal can be too heavy for my personal tastes, but Corroded has a great balance of melodies and heavy vocals. I especially love their heavy drums, that reminds me of my current favorite, Avenged Sevenfold.
