Coral the Merknight vs. SEARANTULA’s It Weaves a Web of Metal

If it were not evident upon your purchase or choice to listen to this album, It Weaves A Web Of Metal, the moment this one-man band starts the words of the “Disclaimer” you’ll know that there is a little something different about this album. Think Tenacious D. Parody music, and even parody metal is not a new thing.

One-man band or not, Coral works with some cool musicians to give this album a full metal sound. It features Travis Orbin of Darkest Hour and Adōn Fanion of Ghost Ship Octavius.

If you’re intrigued already, head to Amazon and grab a copy. It’s been out since July 2017.

This may be a parody album full of tongue-in-cheek ideas and lyrics, but the music itself has an amazing dynamic. It’s truly a great metal masterpiece. It tells a story with lyrics that will open your imagination (and maybe make you giggle once in a while). There’s not much to call really silly about this album (the press release called it silly with dark undertones, though this is paraphrased a bit), and it’s easier to take this seriously than it is to take anything Jack Black does seriously. The narration on the songs, from time to time, is kind of fun and adds to the fact that this album is trying to tell a story.

So, what you have here is a killer concept album with a story that might make you laugh at times, but it’s backed up with heavy riffs and melodic undertones. One of the standout songs is “Videogames > Girlfriends”. It comes equipped with the sounds of video games right in the music (#nerdalert). Sometimes a boy just doesn’t have time for girlfriends…

Metal fans, fans of Tenacious D, and people that simply like music that tells a story (even if it might be silly or corny to some), will dig this album.
