Clint Lowery, of Sevendust Chats With Side Stage Magazine

Interview By: Zaneta Padilla

Clint Lowery, of Sevendust, is releasing his first solo album, “God Bless The Renegades,” this January. The legendary guitarist took a few minutes to speak with us about his upcoming solo release and tour with Alter Bridge. Check it out, and make sure you pre-order his upcoming album here.

Side Stage Magazine:  Thank you for your time today. Let’s jump right in. Tell me about your upcoming album.

Clint Lowery: It’s called “God Bless The Renegades.” It comes out January 31st and it’s been in the making for the last 5 years, and I just got the window of opportunity now.

That was going to be one of my questions. Why at this point in time after being with Sevendust for so long?

It’s one of those things that I wanted to have a greater connection with fans. I’ll watch Lajon on stage and see how he connects when a fan is singing the lyrics and I wanted that for myself.

Do you have a favorite track off this album that resonates with you more?

Yeah. Not many people mention it, but there’s a song called “Silver Lining,” It’s kind of quirky and upbeat and it’s a song that I didn’t think would do well in the Sevendust realm.

“Do We Fear God” was one of my favorite of the album. It really stood apart from the rest musically.

Yeah, that was one that I was really excited to do, cause that’s something I couldn’t sing with Sevendust, but it’s something important to me.  There’s stuff that just fits with Sevendust and what the fans look for, and stuff that doesn’t.

I tried to not compare this album too much to Sevendust’s sound, but I definitely hear the influence. I do think that this will allow you to have that deeper connection to fans of Sevendust and allow you to connect to a broader audience.

Thanks for that!

So you’re about to go on your first solo tour with Alter Bridge. That seems like such a good fit.

Yeah. I couldn’t have asked for a better group. We’re all friends and they’re great guys.

If you could tour with anyone, who would it be?

Ooh, I would have to say Thrice, or Nine Inch Nails would be my top. Sevendust is really heavy, where I fall more on the alternative side. It’s a bit biting too much off, but I’d love to go on a run with Sevendust and take advantage while we’re on people’s minds.

You should get in on the festival circuit.

Yeah! Those are always such a great time!

I saw you for the first time at Fort Rock, the last year they did it.

Oh cool!

I always like to ask artists–if you could speak with a musician who’s starting out, or wants to start, what piece of advice would you give them?

Ooh, I always get asked this and I answer it differently every time. I’d say you have to be passionate about the process. You can’t just focus on the goal or end state, but the process of getting there, cause that’s what success is, it’s passion.

Before I let you go, is there anything you’d like to say to our readers and your fans?

Just “God Bless the Renegades” comes out on January 31st. Give it a listen, listen to the whole album and thank you for the support.
