With Heavy Montreal being less than a week away, we thought it would be a good time to breakdown the insane lineup and pick out those bands that shouldn’t be missed. It can be difficult to pick and choose what bands you’ll want to see, when to go grab something to eat or when to take a break and chill out.
Due to the overwhelming number of bands and other activities and exhibits offered at Heavy Montreal, having a festival plan is a must. Here are some obvious and not so obvious choices of music that need to make your festival schedule.
Slayer – (Sunday) – This one is pretty self-explanatory. It’ll probably your last chance to see Slayer as they’re hanging it up at the end of the year. How about one last circle pit during Angel of Death?
Ghost – (Saturday) – This may be the first-ever festival in North America that Ghost is headlining. How awesome is that you say? They’re not stuck in a club or theater this time around and they’re going to bring out all the bells and whistles. Expect a huge production with Cardinal Copia giving Montreal the best Ghost show they’ll ever see.
Slash – (Sunday) – Slash has been quite busy the past few years with his pals in Guns N Roses who made a visit to Montreal just a short time ago. This time around he’s got Myles Kennedy with him and a whole bunch of new material to play.
Steel Panther (Saturday) – All these guys want to do is fuck themselves tonight according to their newest single. Steel Panther never disappoints and are sure to make you laugh your ass off and have a great time. The last thing to say here is, death to all but metal. See you at 6:25 pm on Saturday at the Monster Energy Apocalypse Stage!
Beartooth – (Saturday) – Taking the Black Label Heavy Stage on Saturday at 4:05, Beartooth is going to destroy Parc Jean-Drapeau. Why do you ask? One word…Disease. Last year’s release, Disease, was one of the best metal records of 2018. With tracks like “Greatness or Death” and “Bad Listener,” Beartooth is going to surprise the shit out of Montreal.
Skillet – (Sunday) – Say what you want about Skillet, but these guys and girls can compete with anyone on the lineup. Expect Skillet to bust out some cool CO2 cannons and John Cooper leads the crowd at Heavy into a giant singalong.
Killswitch Engage – (Saturday) – These guys are 2 singles deep into the promotion for their upcoming album Atonement and from what we’ve heard it’s going to be a banger. They’ll probably jam at least one of them plus a slew of classics. This will be another one of those sets where you’re headbanging and laughing at guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz’s stage banter.
Fever 333 – (Saturday) – This show is going to be nuts. We don’t want to ruin any surprises or anything so just try and keep your eye on frontman Jason Aalon Butler. Good luck!
3TEETH – (Sunday) – Who is 3TEETH? Well, they’ve only been around a handful of years so if you don’t know you’re probably not alone. They were on HIM’s final tour in 2017 and caught our attention. Earlier this month they released Metawar, and we suggest that while on your way to Heavy Montreal you give that album a spin in the car. Unfortunately, if you’re going to take our word and check them out, you’ll have to skip out on In This Moment.
