Candlebox is coming out with their 7th studio album this fall, Wolves on September 17th. The Seattle based alternative band celebrates 30 years together. Fans can expect Wolves to surprise them as their sound has evolved and more of their influences are apparent. Some songs have a heavier sound to them, and others have some bluesy vibes that elevate the band beyond their grunge sound so many of us 90’s babies equate them with.
Earlier this year, Kevin Martin sat with us to talk more in depth about what went into this album. That interview can be found here. Fans of Candlebox can expect to get a deeper glimpse into the band through this album with some very deep, very personal internal inspirations behind the music.
The first track of the album, “All Down Hill From Here Now” was co-written with Blind Melon’s Christopher Thorne. This song is from the perspective of anyone who has had great success and may not achieve that again. Kevin explains “It can be challenging to be an artist who has enjoyed great success, and then down the line, still has great fans, but never really achieves that great success again. A lot of our friends in bands are in that position now. It’s a story I think a lot of people can relate to, not only musicians. Like the boxer who’s on his last legs, he still has an opportunity. You really can’t count anyone out.” The rhythmic guitar riffs and belting vocals make this a great listen that gets your body moving and jamming, and as an “elder millennial,” the lyrics can hit home with the every day hustle waiting for that next success.
“Let Me Down Easy” was teased back in 2020. Watch the music video and you’ll get a taste of some of the music stylings for this album.

“Nothing Left to Lose” is a favorite track of mine on this album. It brings a great energy, and the guitar riffs bring grit to the song that make you want to let your hair loose and headbang to it.
“Far Behind” will always be a favorite of mine, but I absolutely loved this album because it’s completely different from that single. This album has a great evolution to their sound and their lyrical content. “It comes from where we are as humans right now, and what we’ve become. Yes, there’s beauty in these wolves, but there’s the pack mentality, and that lone wolf mentality on the other side,” Kevin says of this album. This album was originally set to release in 2020, but with the pandemic, it was pushed back a year. The timing of this album release is more perfect for this year and even more relevant than it would have been last year.
Wolves is set to release September 17 on all digital platforms and in all formats. Pre-order your copy today at www.candlebox.com to check out their merch sets. Candlebox is touring in conjunction to this release, so find their schedule on their website and see them live in a city near you!
