Breaking Benjamin’s Ember

Breaking Benjamin's Ember

Breaking Benjamin is set to release their 6th album , Ember, in April of this year. With the single release of “Red Cold River” in January, it’s steadily lead the charts, and promises this album will be a hit. Ember has that classic Breaking Benjamin melodic hard rock sound they’ve become known for, but they’ve added a heavier sound to their tracks with more screaming lyrics.

According to singer Ben Burnley, the significance of the album title is “an ember can either be the end of something or the beginning of it.” The ambiguous comment from Burnley can be taken any way, but it feels like this is the beginning of a new direction for the band. Burnley stated that the whole band was more collaborative in the songwriting for this album than the last five, which gives Ember a new complexity to the band’s sound.

Ember has a theatrical feel to it with “Lyra” opening up the album in the instrumental introduction, and “Vega” closes it out as a curtain call for the album.

“Red Cold River” is a favorite of the album, as it has a slow melodic intro, and immediately turns heavy with deep, guttural lyrics. It’s a great fusion of Breaking Benjamin’s classic style and a heavier sound, and the hardest track on their album. If you’re a fan of their heavier songs, “Tourniquet,” “Psycho,” and “Blood” are the best tracks for that appreciation.

“Dark of You” is a slow, beautiful track. With its somber lyrics of “fade away to the wicked world we left, and I become the dark of you. And say a prayer for the wounded heart within, and I become the dark of you,” it’s an easy song to sing along to and get lost in the music.

The whole album is amazing and all Breaking Benjamin fans will love this addition to their library. All the songs have great pacing that flows well with each track, making it a great album to listen straight through. “Red Cold River” is available now, and the album will be available next month.
