Bad Wolves At The Tarheel 6-23-2018

Written By: Zaneta Padilla

Eleven Seven Music label combined a tour with 3 of their artists, Bad Wolves, From Ashes to New and Diamanté. The In Your Head tour made a stop in Jacksonville, NC at local concert venue, The Tarheel. This week was the summer concert series kick off, and it kicked off with a bang, pulling in large crowds for the local venue.

Just that morning, the news of Vinnie Paul’s passing of Pantera and Hellyeah was announced. The venue had a special memorial for him, as did the bands. With several musician’s deaths within the last year, this show was not only a great set of rock performances, but one in remembrance of musicians who’ve inspired many and paved the way for many of today’s musicians.

North Carolina local favorite Waking Tera opened the night off. They reminded me of Sevendust and had a great set, killing it with their finale of Deftones “My Own Summer (Shove It).” Check them out at www.facebook.com/wakingtera

Diamanté was next with her set. She came out looking like a rock goddess in her leather leotard and her blue hair floating around her. She brought her Joan Jett-esque presence on stage, and her band was amazing. Her bass player, Creighton Emrick was as mesmerizing on stage as she was with his leopard spot tattoos and behind-the-back playing.

Diamanté’s setlist:
Kind of Love
Haunted
Bite My Kiss
Youth Gone/ Crazy On You
Bulletproof
Had Enough
Sleepwalking
War Cry

From Ashes to New was next in the lineup. Throughout their set, they interacted with fans with big smiles plastered on their faces, and throwing picks all night. In a moment to remember Chester Bennington of Linkin Park and all he did for their band, they mashed up their song “Heavy” with “Paper Cut” and the audience absolutely loved it! They ended their set on an even higher note with Lance crowd surfing while playing guitar.

From Ashes to New’s setlist:
The Future
My Fight
Downfall
Land of Make Believe
Wake up
Gone Forever
Broken
Forgotten
Heavy/Paper Cut
Crazy
My Name
Breaking Now
Nowhere to Run
Through it All

In between From Ashes to New and Bad Wolves, The Tarheel played a tribute on their screens for the late Vinnie Paul playing the popular Pantera and Hellyeah songs (“Walk,” “Cowboys from Hell,” “Hellyeah,” “Domination,” and “Cemetery Gates.”) with clips of him on stage. They had a table set aside for him with drumsticks and a signature black hat for him. Fans were singing along to every song and remembering favorite moments of his playing.

Bad Wolves came on hard, opening with “Officer Down.” They got most of the venue engaged in an epic mosh pit as they split the audience down the middle. Diamanté then joined them on stage for their duet of “Hear Me Now.” Just before finishing the night, Tommy addressed the crowd to pay tribute to Dolores of the Cranberries and announced that they were able to cut a check for Dolores’ family for $250,000 which was raised by all the proceeds of their “Zombie” cover. They also paid tribute to Vinnie Paul as the entire venue shouted his name to welcome his presence in the venue. Bad Wolves then ended the night with their “Zombie” cover and “Sandblasted Skin” cover. At the end of the night, all the artists met with fans for photos.
