Attila Rages in Lexington with Suicide Silence, Volumes, Rings of Saturn, Spite, and Cross Your Fingers

On a warm Thursday night in Lexington, Kentucky metal fans came from miles away for a chance to party with Attila. With 6 outstanding metalcore bands on the bill tonight it would have been easy to tire out a little as the evening went on but quite the contrary occurred as it seemed each group that performed took the evening to another, higher level.

On the aptly named ‘Rage Fest’ Tour, Attila couldn’t have been better or sharper as they launched into their hour-plus long set with “Three 6,” “About That Life,” and “Callout” pushing the energy level in the room to a record high.

Taking a quick break to let everyone catch their breath, Chris Fronzak let it be known that tonight is Attila’s first time playing in Lexington and wanted to make it memorable.  Chris also explained “There are no rules at an Attila show. If you want to crowd surf, do it! Want to mosh, do it! Want to sing, along do it!  Now get your middle finger in the air!” as they drop into “Middle Fingers Up” as the place goes crazy.  With everyone thoroughly engaged, Attila close out the evening with a two-song encore of “Moshpit” and the crazy heavy metalcore song “Pizza” putting the finishing touches on an unforgettable evening.

You could feel the electricity in the room moments before Riverside, California based deathcore band Suicide Silence took their turn on stage.  Overhead, Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody” came pouring out of the overhead speakers but you could barely tell as the entire venue was trying to out sing speakers.   Fronted by the ominous Hernan “Eddie” Hermida, Suicide Silence was firing on all cylinders from the opening chords of their opening song “You Only Live Once” and never turned back.

Over the next, almost 60 minutes Suicide Silence doesn’t stop pouring out energy as they roll through “Doris” and “Disengage”.  With Ian Bearer of Rings of Saturn and Myke Terry from Volumes now on stage, Suicide Silence closes out their set with “Hold Me Up, Hold Me down” ending with drummer Alex Lopez completely destroying his drum kit, leaving it strewn all over the stage as everyone walked off and the lights came up.

As “the Imperial March” blares out of the venue sound system Los Angeles based progressive metalcore group, Volumes takes the stage.  On a stage that was almost entirely illuminated by two large “V’s” on either side of drummer Nick Ursich, Volumes started out fast with “Left for Dead and “91367” and the mosh pit is running on overdrive.  Vocalists Gus Farias and Myke Terry succeed in getting and keeping the entire venue jumping and moving while rolling through “Feels Good” before ending their energetic set with fan favorite “Wormholes”

With Sprach Zarathustra, Op. 30 by Richard Strauss composed in 1896 (more commonly known as the theme song from the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey) blaring overhead, Bay area based Deathcore Band Rings of Saturn is next to perform.  Featuring dual guitars, Rings of Saturn’s music features a highly technical style, heavily influenced by themes of alien life and outer space. Opening with “Inadequate” from their 2017 release Ultu Ulla through “Nuclear Blast”, Rings of Saturn captured everyone’s attention with their fast and engaging guitar work by Joel Omans and Yo Onityan.  Also included in their set were “Senseless Massacre” and “The Relic” before closing with “Margidda” also from the Ultu Ulla album.

Rolling out some nasty bass lines, Spite blasts onto the stage with a vengeance triggering a wild and enthusiastic mosh pit. Over the next 25 minutes, Spite rolls through a set that couldn’t have been any harder, leaving everything they had on stage
