Atreyu/Beartooth/Wovenwar/Malaki at The Crofoot Ballroom Pontiac, MI 10/2/2015

Pontiac Michigan has a long history. The city, named after Chief Pontiac, was also the home of the 1982 Super Bowl which was held at the now crumbling Pontiac Silverdome.  On this night, four metal bands invaded the Crofoot Ballroom in Ponitac, Michigan. The crowd of eager fans lined up on the corner of Pike and Saginaw Street in anticipation for the almost sold out show on this chilly fall night.

The first band to appear on stage was the Los Angeles based Malaki. Singer Shauna Lisse was instantly in charge of the thick crowd’s attention.  Malaki was a power house of guitars and they never stopped moving around the stage. It was an impressive showcase of talent. This is one band you need to see.

Wovenwar was next. The San Diego based five piece metal band is still touring to support their 2014 self- titled album. Front man Shane Blay engaged the packed-in crowd with heavy lyrics. A large mosh pit was the centerpiece of the action.

Beartooth, who began their set with technical difficulties, started rocking after a ten minute delay. The crowd, in eager anticipation, was chanting “Beartooth, Beartooth, Beartooth” and went insane when they started playing. Crowd surfers were constantly flying to the front of the photography pit. During the song “Dead”, Beartooth were surprisingly joined on stage for a brief moment by Andrew Glass and Brian Cotton of We Came As Romans!

The set list included:

“The Lines”

“Relapsing”

“Dead” [Andrew Glass & Brian Cotton of We Came As Romans joined on stage]

“In Between”

“Ignorance Is Bliss”

“I Have a Problem”

“Beaten in Lips”

“Body Bag”

Atreyu played a loud and long set! Watching this band for the second time in a few weeks makes it hard to believe they ever had any time off! The energy of the band and the way they play together make it seem like they were never apart. The highlight of the set was watching Porter McKnight play in the middle of the large mosh pit. Most of the set was watched from the upstairs balcony. It was a wild scene with uncountable crowd surfers and a giant mosh pit filled with both girls and guys. Atreyu has escalated to one of my favorite bands after the last two shows I attended!

The set list included:

“Long Live”

“Becoming the Bull”

“Right Side of the Bed”

“The Crimson”

“So Others May Live”

“Bleeding Is a Luxury”

“When Two Are One”

“My Fork in the Road” (Your Knife in My Back)

“You Give Love a Bad Name” (Bon Jovi Cover)

“Start to Break”

“Blow”

“Bleeding Mascara”

“Lip Gloss and Black”

“Do You Know Who You Are?”

“Demonology and Heartache” [Played Intro with Guest Drummer picked from the Crowd]

“Ex’s and Oh’s” [Punk Rock Version]
