Puscifer hosted a virtual show for fans. These ticketed viewers had an exclusive virtual viewing of Puscifer’s music, and humor infused into an audio and visual experience. This experience is presented as a double feature showcasing: V is for Versitile and Parole Violator.
Puscifer is known for their over-the-top costumes and acting to go along with their ethereal, harmonizing music, so both features set me up for a great weekend of good music and something entertaining to watch.
V for Versatile opens with the theme about Aliens Among Us in our top list celebrities. The higher they are on our celebrity totem pole, the more likely they are to be aliens, especially with the signs of all the plastic surgery we see in the tabloids, that’s a tell-tail sign of aliens among us.
The storyline continues on in between every few songs. The story progresses that this is a military-level cover up. As the conspiracies go deeper, it’s important to point out that each song title is introduced on their Pepe Sylvia mystery wall, with lots of evidence that Madonna is an aliene, Brittney is safe, and yes, of course Kanye is an alien. I appreciate the fact that Kanye’s picture was juxtaposed right next to “The Humbling River” and the over statement of the year is that that man really needs some humbling, especially as this event is viewed the week his antisemetic words finally brought him some humbling consequences–the irony was not lost on me, and it was very much appreciated.
The songs that were performed in this feature were recorded from the studio, with split screen framing to show each individual member and feature their instrument.
Parole Violator was more performative in its storyline, but as well as the musical performances. The story opens with the physical embodiment of a Parole Violator who looks up to Dolly Parton, and is in the lifelong search of a shot glass full of tequila…or vagina to be delivered to him. As he’s thrown in the slammer with no hope for either request, he dials hopelessly on the cell phone that was strangely not confiscated. Throughout his trial and dream sequence all signs point to Fucking Peter Merkin and how he’s responsible for all downfalls. When Merkin steals the truck for the final story piece, he ends in a campground, where Puscifer is playing their last two songs around a campfire.
The story line breaks up the songs in between every single song. The songs were performed on stage, and the visuals were so striking. The bandmembers were dressed in all black, with the vocalists in cowboy hats. The stage design was very minimal, but the usage of lighting and the digital screens behind the band were stunning. With themes of nature splashed on the screens and washing over the artists, I was pulled into the performance. The usage of colors and flashing to set the mood and emphasize the beat were so beautiful.
Two years after covid, the world is pretty “zoomed out” of virtual experiences, however, Puscifer knows just how to make a virtual experience an experience and this one is worth the time and ticket to watch and experience.
