Phantoms Edge Bears in Season Finale Thriller at GIANT Center

The Hershey Bears faced off against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms in a thrilling season finale at the Giant Center on April 19, 2025. The Phantoms emerged victorious with a narrow 4-3 win in front of a crowd of 10,365 fans.

Despite outshooting the Phantoms 33-20, the Bears couldn’t capitalize on their chances. Ivan Miroshnichenko was a standout for Hershey, scoring two goals and earning second-star honors. The game was intense, with a total of 31 penalties amounting to 74 minutes, showcasing the fierce rivalry between these Atlantic Division teams1.

Ben Gleason’s power-play goal in the second period proved to be the game-winner for the Phantoms. Hershey pressed hard in the third period but couldn’t find the equalizer. The Bears now await their playoff opponent, while the Phantoms prepare to face Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the first round1.

First Period
Scoring Opened by Lehigh Valley: The Phantoms came out sharp and grabbed the first goal of the game, taking advantage of a turnover and beating the Bears’ goalie clean.

Second Phantoms Goal: Not long after, they struck again—this time off a well-executed rush and a rebound finish, giving them a 2-0 lead.

Hershey Answers Late: The Bears finally broke through late in the period with a quick snapshot from the slot, cutting the lead to 2-1.

Pace & Physicality: Fast-paced, high energy from both sides with a few scrums after whistles. Each team had one power play opportunity but didn’t convert.

Second Period
Wild Start: Both teams came out flying. Hershey tied it 2-2 early in the period with a power play goal by Ivan Miroshnichenko.

Phantoms Respond Quickly: Less than a minute later, Lehigh Valley retook the lead 3-2 with a sharp-angle shot that snuck past the post.

Another Miroshnichenko Marker: Midway through the period, he tied it up again at 3-3, showcasing his shot with a one-timer from the circle.

Late Period Goal for Phantoms: Just when it looked like it’d stay even, the Phantoms capitalized on a defensive miscue to take a 4-3 lead heading into the third.

Very Offensive Period: Combined five goals scored, with lots of open ice and breakdowns defensively.

Third Period
Tighten Up Time: Both teams clamped down defensively. The Phantoms played a more conservative style, protecting the lead.

Few Quality Chances: Hershey had more puck possession but struggled to generate high-danger looks.

Final-Minute Drama: Hershey thought they had tied it at 4-4 with under a minute left on a net-front deflection. The puck went in—but after review, it was ruled a high stick and disallowed.

Tense Finish: The Bears pulled the goalie but couldn’t find the equalizer. Phantoms held on to win.
