NEEDTOBREATHE and Judah and the Lion had a stop on their current tour in Wilmington, NC on April 27. The night couldn’t be more perfect for the show. Live Oaks Pavilion is located in the middle of historic downtown, and is right on the water. Even though the sky was overcast, the temperature was pleasant, and the sunset and views of the river were a beautiful backdrop for the evening.
Families with fans of all ages came out to the show with blankets on the lawn and dancing on the open greens. Judah and the Lion came on stage with a great energy, with banjos, a mandolin, guitar and drums. As fun as it was to listen to their set and watch them perform, it was apparent that the band was having fun on stage and enjoying the night and enjoying playing music. There was an instant connection with the audience and lead singer, Judah commented on the beautiful night on the water.
Their next album, The Process, is set to release in just a few short weeks on May 10, so make sure you pre-save it on your favorite streaming app today.
NEEDTOBREATHE began their set at 9. They know how to make an entrance with their lights sparkling, washing the audience in a twinkling star effect, then the stage is set with a golden glow and smoke, so the band can walk out with the most swagger I’ve ever seen on a human. The stage was set with a catwalk where lead singer, Bear, would strut and play directly in front of fans.
The 8-person ensemble was spread across the stage, with platforms for the back-up singers and drummer to be equally seen, which I appreciated being able to see every band member and I think it shows the priority in showcasing every individuals talent and the value they bring to the band.
The stage design was incredible, with a backdrop of screens showing their live tricasting views, but in such an artful way with collage and colorgrading, and the band being washed in such a clean light that they were in perfect view all night. Even for the fans that weren’t up close and personal, every one in attendance would have had the best concert experience this night.
The band opened with their latest albums tracktitle song “The Cave” and throughout the night, and finished with “Dreams” capstoning the night with their latest night and bringing out Judah and the Lion to join in that performance.
NEEDTOBREATHE is currently on their Caves tour, touring through October. This is one of the most energetic and wholesome shows I’ve been to in a while, it really is a great show for all ages and worth the ticket. If they’re in your area, make sure you get a ticket to see them live! Follow their website and socials for updates.
