Fans were treated to a full night of metal as the ‘Omens’ tour took over the UMBC campus for a show at Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena Thursday night. The tour has several different lineups as it makes it’s way across the country, on this night the lineup was, Suicide Silence, Baroness, Killswitch Engage, and of course headliner Lamb of God.
Suicide Silence, who are slated to release their seventh studio album, Remember…You Must Die next year kicked things off with an early start as fans made their way into the arena. Fans on the general admission floor quickly got a few circle pits going during the bands set in preparation for what was to come later, the band even got a ‘wall of death,’ made famous by Lamb of God going at the end of their set. Vocalist Hernan Hermida joked that they had Lamb of God’s full permission to have a ‘wall of death.’
Baroness fronted by vocalist John Baizley were next up with their own style of metal. The band fueled by the energy of lead guitarist Gina Gleason played a short six song set for their opening slot. With four bands on the bill and two of them performing headlining sets, that doesn’t leave much time for the openers, but Baroness made the best of their time on stage.
Up next were Killswitch Engage who are never one to disappoint, and disappoint they did not with their fifteen song coheadlining set. The set kicked off with “Strength of the Mind,” and included all the Killswitch Engage hits like, “Hate by Design,” “My Curse,” “A Bid Farewell,” and “The End of Heartache.” The set also included the Dio cover “Holy Diver,” which arguably can be said is just as good if not maybe better than the original, things wrapped up with “The Signal Fire.” The guys last release was Atonement way back in 2019, so hopefully fans will get a new album in 2023 by chance.
Closing out the night was Lamb of God, who played a fifteen song set. The guys are out touring in support of their upcoming 9th studio album, Omens, which will drop on October 7 via Epic Records. Production on this tour is top notch with seven songs having some sort of pyro. The night kicked off with “Memento Mori” and during “Walk With Me in Hell” Randy leaped from the drum riser as pyro lit up the arena. From there it was just a continuous onslaught of ‘Pure American Metal’ Lamb of God style as they ripped thru “Now You’ve Got Something to Die For,” “Resurrection Man,” “Omerta,” “Laid to Rest,” and wrapped up with the Grammy nominated, “Redneck.”

About LAMB OF GOD:
For millions of headbangers, Lamb Of God are simply the most important contemporary metal band in the world,” Guitar World observed. Lamb Of God grew from basement shows and grimy DIY venues to arena headliners. Over the course of their career, the Richmond, Virginia-based band earned a reverence akin to musical forefathers (and road companions) Metallica, Slayer, and Megadeth. Timeless songs like “Laid to Rest,” “Redneck,” “Walk with Me in Hell,” and “Now You’ve Got Something to Die For” became anthems in the heavy metal songbook. They shoved heavy metal into the new millennium with New American Gospel (2000). As the Palaces Burn (2003) joined Rolling Stone’s Top 100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time. Ashes of the Wake (2004) was the first Lamb Of Gold album certified gold by the RIAA, a feat once all but impossible for a contemporary extreme metal band. Sacrament (2006), Revolver’s Album of the Year, went gold as well. The raw and organic malice of Wrath (2009) began the band’s enduring relationship with Wilbur. Both the diverse Resolution (2012) and the explosive VII: Sturm und Drang (2015) debuted in the Top 5 of the Billboard 200. The 2020 self-titled set, their first new material in five years, added instant classics “Memento Mori” and “Resurrection Man” to the repertoire, alongside eight more monster tracks. Revolver, Metal Hammer, and Loudwire included Lamb Of God on their year-end Best Albums lists. The momentum continues with Omens, the band’s most aggressive and ambitious album yet.
