Slayer co-founder, Kerry King, just released his debut album From Hell I Rise. With Slayer’s final tour ending in 2019, this gave King an opportunity to begin his solo venture, and now it’s been birthed for the rest of the world to witness.
Enlisting fellow Slayer member, Paul Bostaph, Hellyeah’s Kyle Sanders, Death Angel’s Mark Osegueda, and Machine Head’s Phil Demmel, King continues his metal reign.
About Slayer’s retirement, “I knew early on that I wasn’t done and I had no intention of not continuing to play,” said King. “Things I wrote during Slayer’s lifespan are showing up on From Hell I Rise, which you’ll see later, on the next record.”
From Hell I Rise was released on all platforms on May 17. Give it a listen, and you’ll find the most face-melting, aggressive album. For any fan of Slayer, there’s something on this album for anyone, and this is just the start for King. “Even with a record in the can, I’ve still got so many songs that need to be finished. This is what I know how to do. [music and metal] has been part of my life for 40 years, and I’m nowhere near being done.”
The album ends with title track “From Hell I Will Rise.” Just like every other track, it’s got that high-energy, aggressive pace for every metal kid to open up the fucking pit. Its theme of rebellion and being the one God can’t control and living in the world of sin and rising up from the fire is a tale as old as time and the perfect title track for this debut album.
This album is an exciting release. I’m glad that Slayer’s not entirely dead, but I love this new collaboration and that King is continuing to bless us with metal.
Make sure you download the new album from your favorite platform today, and look out for more music coming out since King has a lot up his sleeve!
