John 5 brought his ‘Sinner” tour to the The Birchmere in Alexandria, VA Monday night. Along for the ride are the The Haxans which features fellow bandmate Piggy D on guitar, and New Years Day’s Ashley Costello on vocals.
The Haxans took to the stage first for the night, the band who is out on their first tour played a mix of material from their debut album Party Monsters and numerous covers. Dressed in a dark sequin dress, fishnets, and white boots Piggy D took to the stage with Ash Costello who was dressed in a gold sequin dress and multi colored neon fishnets. The Haxans played a ten song set that included the covers “Witchy Woman,” and “I Put A Spell On You,” and closed out with “Dirty Magic” from their album, Party Monsters. Although the tour only saw Piggy D and Ash performing with a back track filling in for the rest of the band, the two still put on a show that had the crowd up and out of their seats. Hopefully this won’t be the last time the duo pass thru the DMV and hopefully next time we will get a full spooky stage set up. Piggy D did say the band would be releasing a new album sometime this October, so fans have something to look forward to, and fingers crossed another tour will be announced.

Closing out the night was the one and only John 5 best known for being the guitarist for Rob Zombie for the past seventeen years. John is out touring in support of his latest album Sinner and put on pure electrifying guitar clinic at the iconic Birchmere. John started the set off with “Season of the Witch” wearing a skull mask and donning his neon green filled lava lamp-esq telecaster guitar. John mentioned how he was grateful to play at the venue where so many artists have played. He mentioned how in love he was with the acoustics of the Birchmere, to the point they guys had decided to record three songs for the upcoming Live Sinner album that will be released at the end of the tour. As with his shows with Rob Zombie a John 5 show is filled with a lot of visuals, from the stage setup, John’s costumes, and the large monitors playing clips of horror movies thru out the set.
Both Piggy D and John 5 will reunite with Rob Zombie this summer for a 21-city tour kicks off on July 20th at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre in Maryland Heights making stops across the U.S. in Tampa, Holmdel, Tinley Park, and more before wrapping up in The Woodlands at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion on August 21st.
