Iron Maiden At Capital One Arena Washington, DC 10-23-2022

It’s hard to believe that Sunday night was the first time that the legendary Iron Maiden has ever played inside the nation’s capital. Granted the band has played the DMV area but never within the city limits. That all changed when Iron Maiden brought their ‘Legacy of the Beast’ world tour to Capital One Arena to the joy of over thirteen thousand fans. The current tour only has a few dates left before it wraps up in Tampa, FL on October 27th. Fans will have to wait until June of 2023 for the guys to get back out on the road when they kick off their ‘The Future Past’ tour in Krakow, Poland at Tauron Arena.

Iron Maiden dropped their seventeenth studio album, Senjutsu last September, the album quickly hit number one on most U.S. charts. The album has produced two singles, “Stratego,” and “The Writing on the Wall” both of which made the night’s setlist. Fans can purchase Senjutsu HERE

Within Temptation, a Dutch symphonic metal band was the opening act for the night. The band seemed to be a really good fit for the tour and the crowd seemed to enjoy their eight song opening set. The band has seven studio albums under their belts with the latest being 2019’s Resist. Vocalist Sharon den Adel showed the band’s support for Ukraine waving a large Ukrainian flag during her introduction to “Raise Your Banner.”

Closing out the night was the one and only Iron Maiden. Fans lined the front barricade with various flags and banners and began waving them as the intro “Doctor Doctor” began to play. Shortly there after the lights dimmed and Iron Maiden took to the stage with the title track off the latest release, “Senjutsu.” During “Stratego” Eddie dressed as a Samurai warrior made an appearance as he interacted with members of the band. The first half of the set consisted of newer material, while the latter part was classic Iron Maiden like “Hallowed Be Thy Name,” “The Number of the Beast,” and “Iron Maiden.” Fans were treated to not one but two encores, the first of which consisting of “The Trooper,” “The Clansman,” and my favorite, “Run to the Hills.” The final encore began with Churchill’s Speech and quickly led into “Aces High” ending the night. Production on this tour is top notch, from Bruce shooting fire during “Flight of Icarus,” the various Eddie’s that join the band on stage, to the giant spitfire flying above the stage during “Aces High” Iron Maiden is a tour you never want to miss.
