Fozzy just released their first album in 5 years, Boombox, and it was well worth the wait! Fans got a taste of the album when “Sane” released earlier in 2021.
“Army of One” is an instant favorite of mine as Fozzy dials it back with a slow song, and with a theme of isolation. With lyrics speaking of fighting a war by yourself and refusing to lay down your gun, this is the perfect metaphor for fighting today’s mental health battles—“there’s no surrender in this Army of One.”
“Ugly on the Inside” is another favorite track off this album. As Chris Jericho sings of how ugly someone is on the inside and chanting the infamous rhyme “U-G-L-Y, you ain’t got no alibi,” it’s hard to listen without a smile thinking about someone that fits this song.
Fozzy covers Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s “Relax,” and it’s the best cover they could have done! This seems to be the time where every 80’s classic is getting a cover, and I love that they added their rock vibe to this song. I get visions of Will Ferrell’s Mugato rocking out to Fozzy while trying to hypnotize ”really really ridiculously good looking people.”
I could write about every track on this album—it’s been worth the wait and the amount of time put into this album is apparent in the quality of songs coming out of the speakers. Pre-order the album today, and follow their page for updates. Fozzy is currently on tour with GFM, Krash Karma and The Nocturnal Affair until May 16. You can buy tickets at fozzyrock.com
